It was a highly likely path to Eurovision for Firebrace, who cites Mariah Carey as his biggest influence.

The homoerotic relationship between him and Adam Lambert on XF Aus was simultaneously empowering, slightly creepy, and incredibly arousing.Surely he is? Dem brows.

I knew this would happen when 1944 (inexplicably) won last year. They don't seem to realise how boring sitting through a sea of ballads is. 2015 was a real slog to get through and not enjoyable in the slightest. As much as I loved Dami Im & Jamala last year, I think those songs being successful with the public + juries (as well as Poland in terms of the former) have had an big impact on this year's output. Alongside Tropical house judging by all the national finals.
Every year it seems like the bigger songs have influence over what will get through in the following year/s (see Heroes 'inspiring' Russia, Iceland & Belarus to a lesser extent last year). Unfortunately they're often not up to the same quality & it's the songs that offer something different that end up coming out on top, starting the cycle again.
