Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors

She/Her/Queen
Ghost is coming to YouTube tomorrow

She's channeling M3GAN and I'm living.

I'm still listening to the album regularly- at least three or four times a week. Outside of Million Dollar Girl and In The Dark, every other song is bulletproof pop excellence. One Of Us has quickly become my favourite from this opus with Dancing's Done in close second. She has found her lane and refined her brand from the Big Pop Girl cosplay of Heaven & Hell. Also, I'd agree with @mcuk in that I can definitely hear Steps singing this kind of music.

The "campaign" (if one could call it that) doesn't really bother me because I'm more about music than any rollout or promo. For me, the quality of the album is more central.

She really squandered all possible hype. Clearly the focus is tour, but if you have 14 visuals waiting at least promote and drop them with some form of cohesion so people stay excited.

The 12 days back in December seemed put together very quickly, but actually generated a lot of hype for the album.

You just reminded me that she promised 12 days but only ended up completing 10. This has to be one of the worst rollouts for a pop girl in a while (and we all know there have been many messy ones in the past).
I seriously do not understand what the stategy is drip feeding us the visualisers randomly this long after the album is out? They should have all come out with the album purely to generate some hype and extra views for release week.
Album still bops though.

Yeah she's taking the approach of releasing a good album and then pretty much disappearing instead of giving it any sort of "era". Don't these pop girls know we love a full era? Look at how damn successful Dua was with Future Nostalgia. It wasn't just because she dropped the album and then left us with it (Although, considering the pandemic, that would've been understandable) ... But what's Ava's excuse? What's Beyonce's excuse?

The Maxinistas were so convinced the album got delayed so she could announce a tour... and then she's going to announce US dates (maybe?) when there's negative hype and everyone has completely forgotten about the release. A mess.
