I think the white gays' desperation for everything to be like 2009 again will add some misguided hype to this girl's name, but mainly I find it sort of fascinating that a major label would even put money behind an artist like this in 2018. Sweet but Psycho could literally be a shelved Natalia Kills single. I guess Bebe is sort of in the same vein at the moment, but her stylistic choices remain on-trend (for better or worse) unlike this.
I also find it incredibly annoying that Atlantic is trying the same no-label name bullshit in the metadata of her songs that they did Bazzi to add some weird faux indie-cred on her name or something, but I digress.
Why be pressed that a new popstar has a great voice and a killer single. So am I. I regularly check Youtube for any performances of this and it looks like she hasn't performed it yet or nobody cared enough to film her.Hmm... im listening. She has potential I'm just waiting to see how her live performances fair
The music is all fine and well but there’s just this weird sheen of inauthenticity over the whole thing. If the girl were a writer, that would be one thing, but she’s not, and everything seems planned by committee as a result.
For example, if the committee were “down,” as the kids are saying, they’d know that the internet usage is ‘lowkey’ and not the actual dictionary-proper ‘low key.’ It’s in the details.
The girl isn’t as cool as they’re trying to present her, and the bad gyal image feels put-upon. It’s fine, it would just ring clearer if it felt like she were being herself.
100% yes. It seems like major labels saw Halsey & Melanie Martinez's success and are trying to forcibly mold new artists into that category. It's like.... who is the audience this is meant for? Melanie Martinez/That's Poppy fans?

It's very much the Roman Reloaded version of all those flop pop acts they tried to launch off of Gaga back in 2009. Jaira can be Natalia Kills & Ava can be Porcelain Black.
And I don't even mean it in a harsh way. Sweet But Psycho is even kinda a basic bop, but I'm just more... puzzled? Confused? I want to unravel the story of Amanda Koci and how she and some team exactly came about thinking Ava Max was.... fit for 2018.
If it was just some indie pop girl who was like "I love POP and Lady Gaga" it'd be like oh wow how cool (this y'know essentially being what Allie X is dddd), but to see this type of project so heavy-handedly thought of, put together, and pushed by a major label with Today's Top Hits playlisting and award show invitations in 2018 is just confusing.
It's a pop music forum where we analyze pop music, sis.Why be pressed that a new popstar has a great voice and a killer single. Just bop!
