Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album (Late 2011/Early 2012)

I can't say I agree. In fact, her debut had a total of five songs that I really enjoyed; the rest fell flat. Fun Avril is my favorite Avril; it feels genuine (What the Hell being the exception).

Agree with everything. My opinion on her music has improved with each album. Her first one was terrible for the most part, Under My Skin is one you can listen to every now and then, but her latest two albums are my favorites. I think she's most convincing as "fun" Avril, she usually comes off as to try hard when she tries to be "serious songwriter" Avril.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

I enjoyed Goodbye Lullaby. I am a sucker for Max Martin jams, so naturally I ate up What the Hell, Smile, I Love You, Wish You Were Here etc. although I completely agree that she needs an utter image overhaul - she is not a 17 year old punk anymore.

I just hope there is some more middleground between pop melodies and good lyrics. 'Push' was literally my favourite song of last year - it was so simple and understated, but so good. Probably my favourite Avril song EVER.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

Hard to believe she's been around for a decade!

I agree she needs to mature her sound; 27-year-old woman singing the same stuff her 17-year-old self did is bizarre. What the Hell was a strange record.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

I think 'Dancing Crazy', one of the rejects from the album which even uses the exact same synths and production values as 'What the Hell', showcases the real target audience for this type of music. Miranda Cosgrove's version of the track is not inappropriate, as she's a Nickelodeon star.

I don't really care about age and I don't care if I don't fit the target demographic - I just like good pop music (hell, I have albums by Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, One Direction - the ship has sailed). However, for the general public, her target audience will find her music too juvenile and the people who it appeals to, already are too busy stanning Disney stars to care.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

I think Smooth Criminal has it right with Push - it's that perfect middle ground for her between a strong hook and strong lyrics. I didn't think Smile was too childish; it was just that I think people checked out from Avril after What the Hell, unfortunately. She just needs to stick with the hooks and not get too angsty on the lyrics, and she'll be fine.

Well Britney still manages to do it, I think more so it's the image. The clip in pink extensions and the like, it seems a bit odd.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

It's hard to say which direction she ended up going in with this album. She started off as saying that it would be ''fun'' and similar to The Best Damn Thing. But more recently she's described it as ''more musical''. It's hard to say - it could end up being a mixed bag like Goodbye Lullaby.

She did quite a few songs with Chad Kroger (the lead singer of Nickelback). She also worked with Alex Da Kid, The Runners and David Hodges (ex-Evanesence).

On a side note, the 10th anniversary of Let Go is next week. I can't believe it's been that long! It's kind of odd though that Avril hasn't seemed to have aged or matured a day in 10 years...

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

Hopefully the new album wont be as much of a mess as Goodbye Lullaby. I quite enjoyed it, but it was like two different records had been stuck together. What The Hell was even bouncier and more childish than Girlfriend, and then the album cover was all subdued and mature to go with the half of the album that would never see the light of day as singles. Generally, people interested in lighthearted poppy fun wouldn't go for an album like Goodbye Lullaby, and a lot of fans of that singer-songwriter style Avril was going for would be put off by the singles.

It's difficult because even her own die-hard fans are split right down the middle over whether she should be 'old Avril' or 'new Avril', but really she just needs to find a middle ground and not go to both extremes.

Goodbye Lullably is her only decent album. It's amazing. I'm excited for this next one.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

Extremely excited about this album, I always love me some new Avril. Any idea when it is going to be released and when we can expect the leadsingle?

All we know at the moment is that the album has been completed. They haven't actually said anything about when it's going to be released yet.

I'm going to guess the first single will probably be released around August and the album in October.

I loved Goodbye Lullaby and I can't wait to hear her next album. I'm just praying that the lead single isn't Girlfriend 3.0.

Re: Avril Lavigne - 5th Studio Album

I love Avril, but this is just all kinds of wrong. I don't even know where to begin...
