Bananarama

Megalomanic is the only real dud for me off Pop Life. Goes on way too long to start off to with.

I don't know, I always found Megalomaniac refreshing. It is Bananarama getting funky! There was a rumour that the lyrics were about Pete Waterman. Was it ever confirmed?

When the album came out, I always used to skip I Can't Let You Go. Maybe it is the back-to-back songs that are more than 6 minutes long, but I just didn't have the patience for it when I was younger. I like more now that I am older. Still, it isn't one of my favorites, but I like it. Especially the laughing bits.

Is Your Love Strong Enough is one of my all-time favourite album tracks. The lyrics really tell a story, and that double melody on the chorus is just divine. The moody music and the smooth vocals really were a shining moment for them. Did I mention the double melody on the chorus? LOVE it!

Deep sea skiving is almost a greatest hits for the early years. If they had been able to include 'T'aint what you do...' it would have been 6 singles deep plus 'Young at heart' which I still prefer to the Bluebells version. Boy trouble sort of feels like a hit as it was a b-side. Doctor love could potentially have been a single (wasn't it a Tracie b side or something). Wish you were here is as good as any ballad they did.

God, 40 years. I feel ANCIENT. I was still 12 then. What a shambles indeed!

Nor in the Netherlands... I'm guessing that its a specific territory that is available in?
Here in South America (Chile) all Ultra Violet singles are available...Every Shade Of Blue, Take Me To Your Heart, Prove Your Love...the only song unavailable here from this era is a song called "I Found Love" this is greyed out (Spotify)

Interesting! Would love to see the Ultra Violet singles available worldwide.

Seems someone is keeping a tight grip on Ultra Violet for some reason.

I remember Ultra Violet being in print on CD in the US for a ridiculously long time (for an album that presumably didn't sell), and I don't know how you can check what is in print these days, but the Curb website still promotes this release https://www.curb.com/store/albums/60/

30 years since Please Yourself was released today. Makes me feel old, I remember the wait between Last Thing On My Mind being released and the album coming out being ages, I checked the shelves of Virgin Megastores every week hoping it would be out in the pre internet days.

I’ve always loved this album and it’s aged really well. Movin’ On is one of their very best singles and there are gems in the album tracks like Is She Good To You, Only Time Will Tell and Give It All Up For Love. Another Lover should have made the main track listing though as it’s too good for B side status.

Listening to the album now on the way home and it’s glorious

Happy 30th to Please Yourself! An incredibly underrated and most enjoyable album I think. Very consistent from start to finish I think.

“Is She Good To You” really should’ve been a single instead of “More More More”. Shame the campaign ended without it being a single.
I really like the single mix of More, More, More and it’s a good video so I wouldn’t have replaced it but extended the singles run with the amazing Sybil-esque remixes we eventually got on the reissued CD
