Bananarama

"I Heard A Rumour is tipped by the music biz to be Bananarama's biggest hit yet..." Ah, what coulda, shoulda, woulda been eh!?

So I grew up in the USA and I was high school when this song came out, and I can tell you it was massive. It was ALWAYS on the radio. I had assumed it was another #1 for them. (#4 in the USA ain't too shabby!)

My favourite memory from this time as I was at Marching Band practice, and we were standing around on the field waiting for something. I don't remember why but we all started singing I Heard A Rumour acapella, and when we got to the chorus, there were quite a few of us who knew the dance routine, or at least the general idea of it. It was such a surreal moment.

Most of the digital edits of the Masquerade are good - but I really want to hear the full lengths, especially the title track.

Playlist length: 20 minutes 14 seconds

1. Bananarama - Running With The Night [Almighty Remix Edit] (3:25)
2. Bananarama - Forever Young [Lamentis Remix Edit] (3:53)
3. Bananarama - Favourite [Shanghai Surprize Remix Edit] (2:54)
4. Bananarama - Masquerade [Cahill & DTAG Remix Edit] (3:29)
5. Bananarama - Velvet Lies [Sebastian Perez Remix Edit] (2:54)
6. Bananarama - Stay Wild [Until Dawn Remix Edit] (3:39)

The Stay Wild and Velvet Lies remixes are really good as well.....but the edits are too short.

I feel the same these edits are too short. My vinyl is arriving tomorrow due to today being a bank holiday. I really cannot wait to hear the full length versions of Forever Young, Velvet Lies and Stay Wild.

The remix of Masquerade is the best of the bunch and I’m looking forward to hearing it full length. Stay Wild also good. The sped up vocal on Forever Young is off putting, especially at the beginning, but I hope it will sound better on the full mix

I think the edits are perfectly timed for edits honestly. Also, must be honest, all of them, except for “Stay Wild”, are better than the original versions IMHO (the remix of “Stay Wild” is still a bop though, I just love the original more).

Nice remix package! Enjoying it on this sunny bank holiday Friday.

Honestly, Masquerade is still a firm go-to album of mine. Forever Young, Velvet Lies, Stay Wild, Masquerade, Need a Little More Time. Some of my top tier favourites from them. It’s such a fantastic album.

The vinyl has now arrived and the full length of Forever Young is great! Really good to finally hear the full Almighty Remix of Running With The Night too, much better than the edit.

My vinyl release is arriving today and I cannot wait to hear the full length versions. Someone on twitter said the running times for the vi yo and digital releases were the same. I hope not

Doubtful since the vinyl is promoted as having
“…exclusive extended remixes from the likes of Shanghai Surprise, Cahill, Almighty, Lamentis, Sebastian Perez and Until Dawn on Disc 2”

I'm happy to be in the minority here, but I can't say that I like any of those remixes sadly. Credit to the likes of Shanghai Surprize and especially Almighty who've been getting away with doing the exact same thing with each song they're given for 20 odd years now - I'll assume that alone shows there's still a demand and in fairness some of their mixes were great back in the late '90's / early 00's, but I lost interest long ago. I'd love Bananarama to commission some genuinely innovative, interesting and creative remixes, but perhaps that comes at an altogether different budget. Pleased for those who do like them, but they're not for me.
