Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It cost 250 million. You have to assume they spent another 50-80 million at least on marketing. Plus there are exhibitors fees. etc Though with the film still packing 'em in worldwide, Warner Bros doesn't have to worry about the film not making a profit. What with digital downloads, home video, worldwide TV rights, merchandise, Chinese hotel viewings, a film has to flop pretty hard for it not to turn a profit these days.

The more I think about this movie, the more I dislike it. Jimmy Olsen was even shot in the head. The fun of having Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on screen together is marred by the characterisation. That isn't Superman. Affleck is kinda like Batman, fantastic in some scenes, and I reckon he could do good things with the character in subsequent instalments, if they take people's criticism on board (hint: make a prequel). Wonder Woman was brilliant, but then she was hardly in it so they didn't get the chance to mess her up anyway. We'll see how she fares in her solo outing.

This article is a bit overdramatic but I agree with most of it:

Superman can be firm, but is always polite, and he does not hold his powers as a cudgel above others… unless it’s Zack Snyder’s Superman. Here is a character who threatens first and asks questions later, who resorts to physical violence against Batman at the slightest provocation, who has no words of comfort or wisdom for anyone, who even flies away after a terrible disaster at the US Senate.

I don't think Snyder hates Superman, but he certainly doesn't understand him. He seems intent on turning him into the vengeful demigod from the Injustice video games, which doesn't really work when we have yet to have a "proper" Justice League film.
People keep using references to particular comics as a way of justifying the storyline, but those out-of-character moments came after decades of more faithful storytelling, or were a reaction to a particular trauma, or took place on an alternative timeline so don't officially count.

Goodness knows what the 'reborn' Superman will be like in the Justice League movie. I'd be thrilled if he became the hero he's always meant to be, but something tells me he's going to turn up more angry and jaded than ever.

There'll be no Clark Kent, either. They officially killed him off in a newspaper obituary. In the comics when Superman died Kent was "missing", so he could return at a later date. That won't happen here.

I watched this the other day and I was so bored until the fight scene at the last 45 or so minutes (which was admittedly fantastic). I'm not a huge fan of superhero movies, but I can usually enjoy them and follow the plot, but this was just so arduous

They marketed the living shit out of it. Total spend was 410 million (making it and marketing it). Cinemas keep on average about half. So if it makes 820 million, in theory, then Warner Bros break even. Although according to Deadline it actually has to make about 930 to break even.

They basically spent far too much fucking money on it but will still make a good profit in the long run.

Wow those numbers are bleak! I feel nervous for them. Though whoever the fcuk authorised the budget with that script and that director really deserves everything they get. Spectacular as the film is visually, it's so messy and overought that it looked like a computer game. If they went with a less is more mindset then I think it would of all come together better with less money spent.

I got a pair of Wonder Woman 3D glasses today! Only available in Showcase X Plus cinemas. My nearest is Leeds (4 hours there/back!) so I had to eBay them. I think I like them more than the film itself.

To be fair, it seems pointless re-doing Batman if they aren't going to make it vastly different from Nolan's movies. If they decide to make this new universe just as dark they may as well have just continued with Bale and Nolan or at least kept it in the same universe.

They're reshooting Suicide Squad!

Report: Warner Bros. is reshooting "Suicide Squad" to make it more fun

Hopefully this is fake. The problem with Batman V Superman wasn't the darkness. Look at The Dark Knight and how praised it was. And it was not Marvel-y joke after joke movie; The problem was the script and how long it was. Also spoiling the whole movie in the trailers kinda made all the big moments feel flat.
Can you imagine not knowing Super Woman was going to be in the movie? Sure this would have been impossible to do since sites report casting, but they could at least say it was an introduction and she wouldn't actually appear as WW until Justice League and then HA surprise.

The movie did feel like they were pushing as much into it as possible. It could have been a lot less but still much better, if that makes any sense.

I honestly could have done without the whole monster battle at the end. Wonder Woman could have just intervened between a battle between Superman and Batman.

They should have chosen an older actor to play Lex Luthor.

1981 I think.

I'm amazed it happened at all, 'vs' films are such a rarity. Is it worse than Freddy vs Jason?
