It's that time of year again! No not the time of year for abusing Photoshop, that's an all year round thing for me. Time for us all to look back on the year in music and compile it in list format; be that albums, EPs, songs, music videos, #moments or whatever. I know it's still mid-November but I wanted to get this up and running, and unless somebody surprise drops an album between now and the end of the year then your lists will no doubt already be taking shape. If you want to revisit your lists from the mid-year thread and have a chuckle when you realise Q's 3+4 have blasted them into irrelevance they're here. I don't think there will be many that will say that 2016 hasn't been a great year for music, whatever your chosen genre or sub-genre or sub-sub-genre from career pinnacle efforts from returning superstars such as Rihanna and Beyoncé, cracking debut efforts from Låpsley, ZAYN and Shura, to the likes of Laura Mvula, BANKS and The 1975 proving there is no such thing as the 2nd album syndrome. 2016 has also been a harsh mistress though, and we've lost some of the biggest characters in music this year with both David Bowie and Leonard Cohen taking their last bow not long after their albums Blackstar and You Want It Darker were released. Two critically acclaimed albums which saw both artists taking an unflinching look at their own mortality. Probably a bigger shock still was the death of Prince, who has left behind one of the most daring and adventurous legacies in pop. And more recently the innovative and frequently outspoken leader of Dead Or Alive, Pete Burns. ...And now to close with a moving tribute to those we have sadly lost this year, please welcome Annie Lennox: FOR AS LONG AS THE EARTH STILL SPINS Thanks Annie. You can go.
