8. Something In The Water - Carrie Underwood
Carrie_Underwood_-_Something_in_the_Water_(Official_Single_Cover).png

Score: 8.5
Highest Score: 11 (RainOnFire and Markus)
Lowest Score: 5 (Epic Chocolat)
Best Bit: When amazing grace part comes in on the chorus

The song won the Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance. The song was the lead single for her Greatest Hits cd. It topped the country charts for over 7 weeks despite never going number one on airplay. Carrie had come up with song title and idea for how she wanted it to be lyrically the other songwriter played instrumentation for it and Carrie loved it. Underwood has stated that the song is about that a-ha moment where you make a change for the better.

I will let RainOnFire take this away with "I fully accept the fact that it might be its newness that is making me give this my 11, but as of this moment, it's my favorite song on the list. Even if I don't relate to it on a religious level, I think it's an incredibly powerful and uplifting song. It's completely unrelenting in its message, and once the second chorus kicks off and it powers through the bridge, finally culminating in that absolutely massive final chorus with Amazing Grace playing in the background...it just really moves me in a way that no song in recent months has. It's a beautiful, stunning way to close the first chapter of her career and I'm so excited for what's to come.

I really love this especially when the Amazing Grace part comes in. It's not one of my all time favorites from Carrie though. Laura Vanderbooben thought the chorus let the song down and that Carrie did a lot of the heavy lifting with her voice. He found building in Amazing Grace as a lovely touch. Epic Chocolat thought something went wrong in the mixing process and found her voice unbearable when it came to the chorus. Unnameable found this song did not reach the heights that she did on Blown Away. Robsolete stated he wasn't religious but this song took him to church. (When Jesus says yes nobody can say no!). Lost In Japan wrote the Amazing Grace moment is everything and more. DJ Hazey found her voice so powerful and demanding of your attention that it shined.

What did it beat?
Cop Car - Keith Urban
Give Me Back My Hometwon - Eric Church
Automatic - Miranda Lambert
Invisible - Hunter Hayes

I'll give it to Something In The Water but I would have been really happy if Invisible had won too.

Aww, there goes my 11. Not too surprised at it being out now, and I'm definitely not complaining over an 8.5 average.

7. Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
Need_You_Now.jpg

Score: 8.64
Highest Score: 10 (CorgiCorgiCorgi, TheAlmightyAloud, Markus, Unnameable, Fire)
Lowest Score: 1 (Laura Vanderbooben)

Need You Now won four Grammys at the 2011 award show. It won for Best Country Song, Best Country Duo/Group, Record of The Year, and Song of the Year. The song went number one on the country charts and number 2 on the Hot 100. It has sold over six million copies in the US. It also did pretty solid in other countries for a country song. The song helped propel the album into one of the best selling this decade in the US. This song was covered by Cheryl Cole and Gary Barlow but the less said about probably the better.

As soon I heard this song I knew it was going to be one of those country songs that cross-over and become huge. Overall Lady Antebellum have been hit or miss for me but this is excellent.

CorgiCorgiCorgi stated this is his favorite song to sing when he is drinking. DJ Hazey loved this because of it's crossover appeal and that the scenario painted before us is inescapably connective and haunting. Lost In Japan complimented "It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now" and called it perfect lyric to revolve the song around. Robsolete called it one of the biggest country hits in the UK in a while but wasn't as fond of it as others. Unnameable said he owned all theirs albums and called this their best. He highlighted the sweet melody matched with lyrics about missing an ex horribly. Epic Chocolat liked the song but less so when he found out it sounds like Eye in the Sky. Laura Vanderbooben wrote "There is nothing more annoying than getting a call in the middle of the damn night from your drunkass friend or significant other. Appropriately, this song provokes that level of annoyance in me."

What did this beat?
If I Die Young - The Band Perry
The House That Built Me - Miranda Lambert
I'd Love to be Your Last - Gretchen Wilson
Free - Zac Brown Band

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-7)

Poor Something in the Water. It still did extremely well, but it feels like it should have lasted a little bit longer.

This seems the right time for I Need You Now to go though. I do really like the song, I've just never quite loved it as much as most people seem to.

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-7)

I listened to those Keith and Lee Ann songs you recommended MollieSwift and I love pretty much all of them, especially the Kurban songs. Do either of them have a stand out album that you'd suggest I start with or would it be better to go for a greatest hits and work from there?

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-7)

Be Here is my favorite Keith Urban album. His greatest hits is pretty great collection too. I typically start with Greatest Hits but it's up to you. I would go with Lee Ann greatest hits.

For the next elimination there was a tie for 4,5,6 but I'm separating them by how many 11's they got. The next song to leave is the only song not to receive an 11.

The final sing songs are:

Before He Cheats
Blown Away
Breathe
Man I Feel Like A Woman
Merry Go Round
You're Still The One

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-7)

I'd be really shocked if "Blown Away" didn't win this, especially after the average score it got in the Carrie rate.

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-7)

Really sad to see Something In The Water go. I didn't think It'd get my 11 when I started the rate but it's such a beautiful song and I ended up with it on repeat. Was hoping for a top 5, but number 8 is still a respectable showing.

Was pleased to see Need You Now get to number 7 as it seems to divide opinion a bit but I love it.

Merry Go Round is still here though??? It needs to leave next please! (sorry Ms Vanderbooben)

At this point I can't complain too much - I didn't expect Kacey to make top 10 so anything now is just gravy!

6. Breathe - Faith Hill
FaithHillBreathealbumcover.jpg

Score: 8.78

Highest Score: 10 (Robsolete and MollieSwift)
Lowest Score: 7.5 (Fire)
Best Bit: Caught up in the touch slow and steady rush baby isn't that the way love is suppose to be..... I can feel you breathe

It's kind of crazy how consistent the scoring for this was in the 8.5/9.5 range. The song won the Grammy for Best Female Vocal in 2000. The song saw huge success where it went number one on the country charts and number 2 on the Hot 100. In the year-end chart it was biggest song of 2000 here in the US and finished as the 27th biggest song of the decade. The song's melody has been compared to her former number one hit It Matters To Me. The music video got a bit of criticism over how sexual it was. The song helped Hill have the biggest album of her career as "Breathe" sold over 8 million copies in the US alone.

Breathe is fantastic. A once in a lifetime hit. I think it probably should have been a place or two higher but I wont complain about top 6.

Lost In Japan thought it had a monster chorus. Robsolete said "Incredible. I stan for Faith, and this is one of her absolute best. It's how country pop ballads should be done!" DJ Hazey wrote that he loved other songs by her more but that this still gives you feels four sure. Laura Vanderbooben said it was more country than he remembered. Epic Chocolat called it a great ballad with a great belt vocal performance, a classic.

What did it beat?
Jo Dee Messina - That's The Way
Dolly Parton - Travelin Prayer
Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance
Trisha Yearwood - I Would've Loved You Anyway

The right winner.

5. Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
Carrie_Underwood_-_Before_He_Cheats.png

Score: 8.78

Highest Score: 11 (Lost In Japan)
Lowest Score: 5 (CorgiCorgiCorgi & Epic Chocolat)
Best Bit: Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats

The song won Best Country Song and Best Female Vocal Performance. It was nominated for song the of the year too. Before He Cheats went on to become a huge success being the first country song to ever go double platinum it has since sold over 4 million copies which is amazing for a track released in 2006. The song was originally written with Gretchen Wilson in mind. The writers did not even think Carrie would want the song and she was hesitant at first thinking she would receive backlash for it after her idol win. At the time the song had the longest ascent to the top 10 taking 38 weeks. Coupled with Jesus Take The Wheel, this song helped Underwood achieve one of the best selling albums of the later half of the 00's selling over 7 million.

I'll let Lost In Japan start us off with "The first country song I ever fell in love with and it remains one of my all-time favorites to this day. It's just such an out poring of rage and emotion and Carrie's vocal is everything. It just HAD to get my 11."

This song is an instant classic. I remember the first time I heard this song when I got Some Hearts cd and just knowing this was going to be a smash and was thrilled when it was. Some Hearts was my most played album from 2005/2006 and was the album that got me back into music overall after whatever was going on 2002/2004. Laura Vanderbooben wrote that he saw a fourth grade girl sing this in a talent show once. Amazing! Unnmaeable said it was Carrie at her feistiest, perfect country-pop. Roboslete said "Amazing song and I'll forever be annoyed that they didn't push this song in the UK. It's shocking how convincing BadGalCarrie actually is." BadGalCarrie love it! DJ Hazey continued the praise with "I legitimately love this song, and it's probably because I was exposed to it everywhere at the time. I don't think I saw anyone ever put it down, and how could you? She pretty much describes the situation perfectly and with as much pizzazz as you could ever ask for."

What did it beat?
Give It Away - George Strait
If You're Reading This - Tim McGraw
I Need You - Faith Hill feat Tim McGraw
Long Trip Alone - Dierks Bentley

Gobsmacked that Before He Cheats is out already, I thought it was a certainty for top 3.

Re: Best of Country: Grammy Winners Song Rate (32-5)

You did give the whole top 5 a score of ten Robsolete!

The top 3 was basically set the whole time though. Only 1 point separates the winning song from the 3rd place one.
