Series 2 definitely lost something. It just…wasn’t that funny. There are now too many characters and you can’t give them all a solid storyline. It certainly felt like it wasn’t about Jack anymore. The Shannon pregnancy storyline was so unnecessary, and felt crowbarred in to make a point about birth/death in the final episode. There’s also something jarring about it being set in 2014 then using 2023 music as the soundtrack.

The critical lauding will ensure a 3rd series if they want to do one but the writing and plotting need tightening up.

I watched all of Series 2 last night and I adored it - I can’t argue against the complaints above, the first series was lightning in a bottle and there’s no way it could be bettered or even matched but this was comforting, hilarious and heartbreaking all at once.

I assume that Series 3 will be the final one (and that it will end with a VERY SAD EVENT THAT KEEPS BEING SIGNPOSTED?)

That’s what I was expecting at the end of Series 2, to be honest.

Yeah - I was expecting that too. Especially as a TV critic guy I follow on Twitter was raving about how amazing the last episode was.

I did really enjoy this series but I do think there was so much more they could have done storyline wise, especially with Jack. I'm also not keen on how it whizzed through what was supposed to be a year in just six episodes.

I spent last week watching this second series. It felt like catching up with old friends. I liked Corinne much more this time. Jon Pointing is such a babe. I fancied him in some advert a few years back when he was a vampire. He’s really not my type but has such a charm about him.
I worked on that advert nn (and I get it, I fancy him too)

My mum watched series one and two this weekend and loved it -- always fascinating to see her laughing at explicitly gay jokes. Makes me feel extremely grateful, if not a little awkward!

I realise I wrote pretty much the same thing 2 years ago when S1 was on!

I started watching this last night. I was expecting it to be an odd couple kind of comedy with Danny (the room mate) a bit of a dick, jarring with the lead, but in the two eps I've seen so far he's really fun and the star of the show for me. I recall the actor being a vampire in some gaming advert and finding him really captivating in that! He has some charm about him (and kind of reminds me of Dermot O'Leary!).

This reminds me of the time watching Mrs Merton and a pre-disgraced G*ry Gl*tter interview, and Mrs Merton saying something like "there must be a nightclub near me named after you, Gary, because the other night I heard my Malcolm on the phone to his friend saying he was going to take him up the G*ry Gl*tter". Cue much laughter from me. but my mum didn't get it. So I had to explain it was rhyming slang - blank face from my mum. I then had to explain it was rhyming slang for 'shitter', to which my mum said 'as in toilet?'. I just sheepishly nodded and let her think that's what it meant. So awkward, and I was only about 17!!

Ha! That is very similar to my experience - one scene referred to poppers and my mum turned to me to ask "do you drink them?"

Cue me having to explain how they work and why people use them, without giving anything away about my own antics

Yeah he will always be the Virgin Games vampire for me too.

Great series, only discovered the first one towards the end of last year so the new one arrived in perfect timing.
