Big Boys

I enjoyed season two a lot. The cast is impeccable, the niche British pop culture references are so good and humour are top notch.

My main criticism is the pacing seems off. They raced through second year unreasonably quickly, to the extent that it felt like there were some missed opportunities and not enough space for some of the characters to breathe. Maybe Channel 4 has indicated the ratings don’t support a longer run so creatively the decision has been made to pick up the pace so a “complete” story can be told.

There was a really foreboding atmosphere to the voiceovers and ghosts appearing this series. Would be interested to know people’s theories, but that definitely contributes to the feeling that the series is drawing to an end.

The second half of S2 did seem to venture off, with Jack basically playing a side character, but it was still an emotional and poignant moment. I was just ending uni at the same time this was set so saw a lot of myself (good and bad) in it, so many aspects definitely hit home.

I did get the end of show vibes from the last episode though, which will be quite annoying as I feel there’s still a lot of unfinished business. Perhaps if there is a S3, it will have flashforwards into life after uni now that we have pretty much caught up with the past?

I really really love this series - such a good balance between hilarious and emotional moments, packed with British references as well. I need more seasons.
On the sadder side it's kind of made me reflect on my university days and my regret of not coming out earlier and not being very social (making use of societies and so on) while being a student.

Channel 4 comedies are always so good, I need to get more familiar with what else they offer in terms of shows.

I really hope in any series 3 that there will be less of the aunt. It was definite overkill. However, I’m not sure because Jack Rooke seems to be besties with the actress.

Recently started watching this and finished Series 2 tonight. What a well written and well acted show. Full of heart, laughs and gay references.

Initially I thought it was going to be a stereotypical gay guy falls in love with his straight best friend. Great to see Jack and Dan’s friendship develop and what a good friend and ally Dan is. Someone we’d all love in our lives.

The narration seems to make clear where the story is going to end and I don’t think I’m ready for it.
