BIG POP GIRLS 2022 - THE END

I remember really not enjoying "Baby" when it first came out and originally had it slated at around a 4 on my scoresheet. However, upon relistening to it for the rate it grew on me quite a bit. It's one of the few (honestly, maybe the only) tracks where I hear the Janet influence, so that helped me warm up to it considerably. I'd like the song even more if the chorus were less repetitive.

One of many songs on Crash that crosses the line between catchy and irritating. Good riddance! Lightning next!

And the CRASH cull continues at full speed!

"New Shapes" served as the fourth single for CRASH and... dare I say it, but it's the best out of the bunch? To me, this song is way better than "Tears", the other collaboration Charli has with Caroline, and it's on par with "Gone", the other collaboration Charli has with Christine and the Queens. In fact, I think this is the perfect step forward from "Gone" and feels like its big sister. "Gone" knocks with an 80s feel but taken to the future. "New Shapes" does pretty much the same, specially with the features and their distinctive sections.

I'm still unsure as to why people dislike this song, as I remember the reaction in the thread being quite mixed, but I think it's a tad underrated. All the components just work pretty damn well. If I had to nitpick anything, I'd say the chorus is a bit of a missed opportunity, but it's still solid. It's just incredibly catchy and that's kind of what I want from a sell-out pop album, like CRASH sold itself as.

Chris' verse is great and honestly, it's one of the best things that he's put his name on until his most recent singles. Caroline, as expected, knocks it out of the park. She just excels with those vocals and takes the bridge completely to herself, taking us to a completely different, ethereal world. Her part in her song reminds me a lot of "Don't Call Me Angel" and how Lana Del Rey just came in, did her thing, and left. I kinda stan that.

I'm glad it made it this far!

Onto the commentary from out 11 givers. We begin with @daninternational, who writes "Probably the best pop song of the past 12 months, it's just full of hooks, fits the album without being as generic as some of the tracks are, and felt like a BPG statement."

And closing us off, we leave with @TeleDex, writing "It was hard to choose between this and Break My Soul, as Beyoncé was so iconique to the point of me remembering her rap verse like others can from Hamilton. I think a rap can be harder to remember, so it's rare for me. But I have easily decided that I'm rooting for Charli as well as Christine and Caroline with this one. Let's see if this wins like Rain on Me! Each verse and chorus is brilliant, but it's Caroline's bridge that wins my 11, and I couldn't have had it any other way. I still listen to this, all the time!" Well, bestie, I'm afraid this did not win, but (!) it made it further than expected, so, let's celebrate that?
