As we all know, 2024 was a landmark year with releases from practically everyone important in pop music. We had that weird, but exciting period between March and April where it felt that every single artist possible wanted to drop an album. Throughout the summer, we also saw the rise of several new voices - some of which have been trying for years to reach BPG status. It was an abundant year with inarguably some of the best material of their catalogues. I don't know about you, but I genuinely got something out of almost every major album released this year. To put it simply, I was left with an insane amount of choices with this rate. I tried many combinations and ideas of how to get around the sheer amount of material, but ultimately, I felt that the puzzle would never be complete if any album were left out. With this in mind, we decided to throw everything at this rate. Let's look at the good and bad of 2024, together.
Due to the sheer scope and quality of the material here, I simply could not do this rate justice by myself. Indeed, this year sees four host taking over the BIG POP GIRLS rate for the first time. This year sees the arrival of @Ensnare who approached me enthusiastically about working together on this even before 2023 had begun its results. He has been working on all of the fantastic graphics you have seen so far. BPG24 also sees the return of the loveable duo that made this rate be what it is today, @RJF and @Laura Vanderbooben, who were incredibly eager to get back to work. I’m so, so excited to be working with this incredible team and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. With eight albums and four hosts, the way we’re doing it is fairly simple: each of us gets two albums, one of an “established” pop girl and another of a “newcomer”. The rules aren't so strict, of course.
With all that said...
It is, with great honour, that I welcome you to the BIG POP GIRLS 2024 rate.
