BIG POP GIRLS 2024

I’m nearly ready but now I’m concerned… How many 10’s are too many 10’s?

I mean, the song list is huge and it contains a lot of really great material, so I don't really see any issue with giving a lot of 10s.

I will say that as we get closer to the end of the rate, you might suddenly find that you in fact can parse a difference and a preference between your forty 10s. Only one song can win. Which ones would you be happy that your score assisted in doing that? I would encourage being as discerning as possible.

Honestly this is true, but at the same time like 97% of these songs have zero chance of winning anyway, so realistically the only difference giving them a 10 or downgrading to a 9 might actually make is whether they finish at #37/#72/#125 or #39/#73/#128. But of course nobody should be giving perfect scores to anything they don't truly love/want to see perform as well as possible.

Don't forget about your 9.25s, 9.5s and 9.75s!

This is a great tip! I narrowed down my initial twenty five 10s to maybe like ten. I didn't want to use 0.25 points at first but it did help discerning the tracks I would love to see ranking high from the ones I like but don't find as strong.

Cowboy Carter might have my best scores overall, though I did have to take some points off for that autopilot Post Malone collab and filler one-minute tracks. Those TTPD scores though... yikes. I'm considering one of the tracks for my 11, but then there's a handful that I struggled to give 2s to. What a messy hard drive dump of an album - still, its highlights hold up to the rest of the rate. Chappell's is pretty uneven as well, though shorter and far less... tortured. What a selection of albums tho! It feels colorful, vibrant and even though I don't enjoy all of them they all add so much to the rate and 2024 pop music.

In fact, I've done all of the scores except my 11 and I will send them in soon. Might just give it to Taste (deserved).

Other people were sharing their thoughts on scoring methods, I thought I’d share mine.

My thoughts were just that I wanted the ranking process to have a bit of killing my darlings- if I wanted to give something a 10, I had to be able to confidently give it one of the four 10s available. If I couldn’t make that argument, then down it went to 9.75 and the evaluation process starts over. It’s almost certainly a bit neurotic, but it’s the process that results in a ballot I feel satisfied with.

I should have my scores in by the end of the weekend (aiming for Saturday). I've got most my scores locked, but I'm fighting the urge to be unhinged and start double guessing my opinions on 75% of the material.
