BIG POP GIRLS 2024

he/him
Just finished with Taylor, to tell you that I'm simply bored! The 2nd half is unnecessary and drags the whole thing down. I'll be pleased to do the Taylor math, when I'm finished.

I need to say this, before I never mention Wicked again, because I'm too passionate, I'm stressed enough in AmDram, I hate looping in and out of the more hateful parts of criticisms, and I don't want to keep doing it when the songs are eliminated! I promise you, I don't even wanna comment again! I still never get these Wicked naysayers, with the classic PJ response that I just mashed up in my brain from several, because I feel they're following a pattern: 'I love or like the musical, but I'm not scoring Defying Gravity or Popular highly, because it's bad out of context, and it's a cover'. Bitch please! From my viewpoint, the latter part just insults the entire Musical Theatre acting business, because nobody would just cover it, not even the Covers (or Understudies depending on how they hire), like the two I saw doing Galinda and Nessarose! So yeah, fuck my showtunes, still my automatic 10s (hopefully), cheers! But it's just typical, and (Joan Rivers voice) it kills me!

2 to 3 hours of drama and songs from Wicked gets me gleaming, so does the hour of just Part 1 or For Good this year, or the whole musical, without the drama and out of context. This 2-hour album would be in the bin for me. I think about how to respond once more, to the Wicked low scorers, if some of them were also Taylor low scorers: I would wish for a track from Hour 2 of The Tortured Poets Department, to go before anything from Wicked. That'll be an achievement, and I'd be happy to switch one of Taylor's scores to 0, this year. Not sure about anything else from the Extras yet, and I've still not played Katy's.

Anyway, 3 more albums to go: Brat, Cowboy Carter and the Extras. I'll let you know if I have any timing issues, because tomorrow night is a rehearsal night.

It absolutely is the hardest to rate if you want to take the time to properly appreciate and evaluate every song, since it's both very long and pretty samey, but I guess if you just go "this is boring, 5/10, next" thirty-one times it should be pretty easy nn
Eh, I'd say the albums that actually switch sound from one track to another, or even during a single track (Cowboy Carter, Brat, Rise and Fall...) are much harder to rate and compare because the songs do very different things. The songs from The Maximizing Streaming Department on the other hand, reveal all of their cards in the first minute. And even if we go into the minutiae to distinguish the songs from Anthology which are not So High School, a 5 is not much different from a 6!

TTPD is the easiest for you all to rate because you’ve been whining about it for 9 months knowing full well you’re just going to chuck a smattering of 3s, 4s and a 6 for So High School at it and call it a day. Get new material!

Tweaking my scores and I'm surprised to see Billie's album emerge as my favorite. It doesn't have an ambitious narrative to cling onto but the length/overall quality ratio is perfectly refined. I wouldn't lose a single song from it. Wouldn't be surprised if the album somehow ended up slithering its way to the top with its overall score. She played the game! Silent but deadly
