Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT

This has been the only thing that I've listened to these past few days. And it's just growing on me more and more.

The only song that I don't quite get yet is Skinny. She's mumbling a bit too much on that one.

This is wonderfully paced. Not only does each song transition flawlessly into the next, but the tracklisting makes this a brisk listen despite it being a long-ish album (by today's standards nn).

A few current obsessions with the album:

- The pitched-down vocals (maybe Finneas?) on Chihiro's outro
- The wonky synths on the outro for Birds of The Feather - it's kind of giving an ML Buch moment
- The "I sleep bout three hours each night" section in Blue hits
- Lunch (her best single)

Skinny is the one where she "mumbles" the most, but there are quite a few big vocal lines too. And I think the way she sings it fits the subject matter.

While Lunch is my least favorite (still great though), it was a good decision to put one track one there with a bit of Bad Guy vibe.

Just one question. Is the album mastered quietly for anyone else? I actually kind of struggle to hear everything when I'm commuting or people are speaking in public places and yes I have noise cancelation on my headphones.

This was my first impression. I think it was made on purpouse. If you hear her debut album, vocals are clear and loud. Now it seems like she wanted to make a soundscape.

Listening to Happier Than Ever (the album) and her voice sounds so clean, crisp and clear.

The mastering of the new album surely has to be a creative choice?

The album sounded great on Friday, but it sounds sensational now. So many hidden details and oblique references that come into focus with repeated plays - I feel like I'm plunging deeper and deeper into icy cool water with every listen, oh yes.

Also, what a delight to listen to an album that you don't need to pare down, rejig, or bend over backwards to find within some unifying theme. She's requiring no more work from the listener than for us to trust her instincts, and honestly, I trust her with my life. From the editing to the sequencing to the artwork and title - it's a perfect jewel of an album.

It sounds like “Passionfruit” by Drake.
I was specifically referring to her voice which does most definitely sound like Harriet wheeler. I think the production sounds as much like any random blood orange song, but the part I’m specifically referencing sounds like the Sundays and I’m not the only person to say so here lol.

Also glad someone else mentioned Jonna Lee/iamamiwhoami, they sound identical in parts of Chihiro.
