I understand what some are saying about elements of this being no different than much of her output of the last 10 years, but there is something more comprehendible about this. It certainly could be the driving beat that keeps it all afloat, but I was actually struck more by the lyrical motif and her delivery. It's direct, it's clear, and she doesn't elongate the words as much as she typically does. The production does sound deep and below ground, which definitely made me appreciate everything we'd read going into my first listen. With the music video, her joy is palpable and I've missed seeing that side of her.
Not to mention, the entire package is a fantastical reimagining of what it was like to party during the pandemic. I hadn't thought about it in a while, that claustrophobic isolation but then you're having living room dance parties and Zoom happy hours - it really did feel like you were in a bunker with the ones you love. I like the idea of this song soundtracking it.
