Björk

"Blissing Me" is sent directly from heaven to clear my skin and pay the rest of my student loans. @Glitterizer repent.
I will not!

I’m not sure how to properly rank Bjork albums as I enjoy them all, and they’re their own unique worlds co-existing with each other, but I’d guess my current playability preference is:

1. Vespertine
2. Biophilia
3. Utopia
4. Vulnicura
5. Homogenic
6. Medulla
7. Volta
8. Post
9. Debut

I’m super excited to hear Fossora.

Having a moment with Debut. It's my 4th favorite behind Post, Homogenic, and Vespertine but her first four albums are on almost equal footing. It's fascinating to hear her planting seeds that would sprout throughout the rest of her career. The harp, the strings, the deep bass, the atypical structures - they all start here. I think The Anchor Song could exist on any of her albums?

I love when the album winds into itself on There's More to Live Than This where the beat is coming through speakers within a club, excusing herself to the restroom for a verse, back out into the club. It's electric, you're simultaneously experiencing the night out with her. For it to segue into Like Someone In Love, where the protagonist leaves behind the thrill of her Saturday out to wistfully walk home in the early Sunday morning hours, the sound of cars driving past in the rain. She builds a sonic city in real time.

For some reason it used to annoy me when I first got into her, I don’t know what teen me was thinking! It’s a quintessential Björk deep cut, and the simple, beautiful sentiment of it resonates more and more each day. Its only flaw is repeating the same lyrics twice.

Truly the best moments on the album for me.

I’ve decided to do a full discography listen this month before the album, and hopefully I can pair them with the podcasts if those come out regularly. Debut is very patchy for me, but it has some of my all time favorite songs by her and it’s probably still in my top 3 since im admittedly one of the ones who prefers her 90s work. It’s the one album I find that was very “of it’s time” while Post and everything after is so timeless and almost just removed from time itself.

Techno Bjork is such a mood. To have clubbed with her back then oh my God…

I promise I’m not trying to be “controversial” Volta was my first Björk album so it’s a big deal to me.

Volta's super underrated, and I know I put it 8th in my own current list. Sigh. I adore the water/liquid sounds that bridge the album as a whole. Each one of her albums is worth exploring and diving into - they're all so adventurous and fascinating.

My first Bjork album I remember really sinking my teeth into was Biophilia. I still have a soft spot for it, even if it seems to be one of her most disliked albums.

Volta has one of her strongest songs, Wanderlust alone... but I do feel that certain songs, like I See Who You Are and Hope, are beatifully arranged, but really don't go anywhere.

Biophilia has a great concept, some great songs, but it's so quiet and a bit muffled, some songs needed a bit more vitality! A missed opportunity in my opinion.
