Track background: Produced by both Cashmere Cat and Stargate, “All Hands on Deck” was released as
Aquarius’s third single on February 24th, 2015. Bebe Rexha (
lmao) joins the production team as well as Tinashe on songwriting duties, while
a remix with retired Instagram personality Iggy Azalea was recorded and released too. Kanye West himself even co-signed the video
(that thankfully utilized the album mix) which premiered on April 6th, 2015, but neither helped the song; it peaked at #1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
Tinashe describes the song
here.
My thoughts: This has always been and will always be a complete bop, especially for the way she performs it live. The choreography, the vibe, the instrumentation in the production… I found myself thinking that I may have overscored it, but then I re-listen and all is good. A shame it didn’t dent the charts…like basically everything she’s released since, but that lack of success doesn’t mean the music isn’t good. In any case, definitely its time to go, especially for outlasting “Bated Breath”.
Your thoughts:
@Sprockrooster (10) - Okay, this suddenly clicked. It was an 8 or 9 during most of the voting period. But I got into the moment and I was getting my life. A solid 10.
@TRAVVV (8) - A rare instance where a song’s verses are equally as amazing as its chorus.
@paperboyfriendd (9) - Sexy and fun, what more could you ask from a pop song? That pan flute(???) solo can choke though who the hell thought that was a good idea
@Jwentz (5) - BASIC.
@digitalkaiser (9) - Let me not give this a 10, simply because it hasn’t aged as well as a lot of other songs on the album, it’s very much a fan favorite but it has always lacked a certain something for me. The video and choreography certainly help this by leaps and bounds. I’m not sure what it is about it I don’t like as much as I should.
@Bangers&Bops (8.5) - Catchy as fuck even with the hokey flute and thick bassline. A DJ Mustard production wannabe but a bop nonetheless.
@KingBruno (10) - This one goes STRONG on hooks. That ‘flute chorus’ is innovative as hell, so props to the producers for that. Her best song.
@happiestgirl (10) - I wish this had smashed. It’s such a fun slightly angry bop
@He (9) - pure sex, pure star quality; should have been a hit -the flute in the chorus is a bit annoying, but great in the middle 8-
@AshleyKerwin (8.5) - I like this but I never saw the smash hit potential that everybody else did.
@ohnostalgia (9) - I’m sorry but I can’t get through “I’m looking for a boy to fill this empty void” without giggling. Look what this forum’s done to me. Also... do you think Tinashe will sue Taylor for taking her the old me is dead gig? I’m sure she could use the coin.
@constantino (8) - The first Tinashe song I heard, and I haven’t looked back since!! Ok that was a lie. I have reminisced about the time that her career has had a direction and hope many a time. What a bop though.
@Solenciennes (10) - The music video for this is iconic and it’s an injustice that it didn’t lead to some kind of true commercial breakthrough for her on the music video alone but I digress. Other notes - that creepy beat forming the backbone of the song and the chorus deserve kudos.
@Trouble in Paradise (4) - She is trying too hard on this song and it's just kind of sad. Tinashe has a solid voice and a lot of the production on this album are great, but the lyrics and hooks often fall short.
@Remorque (8.5) - Y*S. Dip it low, pick it up slow, roll it all around, poke it out let your back roll... Pop pop pop that thing.
