Track background: First teased on
SZA’s Instagram on November 28th, 2016, “Love Galore” was next premiered live on Jimmy Kimmel, on January 10th, 2017. It was written by SZA, Carter Lang, Cody Fayne, Tyran Donaldson, and Travis Scott, with Lang and ThankGod4Cody being responsible for “Love Galore”’s production.
Ctrl’s second single, it was released on Soundcloud on April 27th, 2017, the same day that its Nabil-directed music premiered as well. A day later, the track was made available widely across digital music purchasing platforms.
Fun fact: SZA also has an unreleased verse for the "Love Galore", seen briefly here:
which presumably was made to fill the space that Travis Scott, whom, depending on your feel for his contribution, took up rather fortunately/unfortunately instead.
SZA later sat down with Genius to personally discuss the song here:
My thoughts: Incredibly infectious, especially with those synths (?) at the beginning. I’m of the few (?) that loves Travis’s offering here, as I think their tones play really well off one another. I also CANNOT RESIST this starting after “Supermodel”, as this is the perfect way to ramp up the album, both in energy, as well as in tone/pace. It easily should’ve gone farther here.
Your thoughts:
@TRAVVV (10) - The fact that she said the beat reminded her of the Muppets doing Kokomo makes me love it even more. Also - justice for the original Love Galore video… has the full think ever leaked?
@paperboyfriendd (10) - Pure sonic bliss
@Jwentz (10) - This one took a few plays to grow on me, I think I resented it for eclipsing Drew Barrymore in the eye of the public, but once it clicked I could not stop playing it. I can't get over how addicting SZA's verses are. Travis verse is fine, but very second fiddle to me here.
@Bangers&Bops (9) - This song was destined to be a hit. If the first track was the soft and vulnerable side of SZA, ‘Love Galore’ is definitely the confident and reflective. Also Travis Scott’s adlibs throughout are just so good and lush.
@KingBruno (7) - Travis doing his best 808s & Heartbreak era Kanye West impression is a no.
@ohnostalgia (8) - Musically lots to love but I didn’t need Travis’ random interjections.
@constantino (10) - Back when CTRL first came out, I wasn’t quite as in love with this as everyone else seemed to be. The video dropping was the moment where it all clicked and I haven’t been able to get the damn refrain out of my head since. I blame the pigtails she’s rocking - so, so right. I’m not the biggest Travis Scott fan but anyone who says his verse is anything less than excellent is wrong.
@Solenciennes (8.5) - Great melodies, beautiful melodies.
@Trouble in Paradise (6.5) - Solid song but I don't understand why this is the single and
the SZA song. The chorus doesn't really catch me.
