Bond, James Bond

Discussion in 'TV + Film' started by Booers, Dec 5, 2014.

  1. They had to go all out for Skyfall after the Boredom of Solace tried to be too clever and people switched off.

The trailer does give me the sense that they've reigned the over the top bond-esque-ness of Skyfall a bit. I'll go see it obviously, I'm sure it'll be fine, but Skyfall was brilliant. I just hope they don't over do the "tortured 00Agent's family history comes back to haunt him"...
  2. I'm watching GoldenEye again and I will never understand how they eventually went from that to Die Another Day.
  3. The World Is Not Enough was great. I pretty much only like Die Another Day for its title song.

  4. Tomorrow never dies wasn't bad either. Certainly not goldeneye standard, but they brought it back with The World is not enough
  5. Tomorrow Never Dies was awful! Me and my friend always argue about it, it's one of his favourites. God knows why. I've never seen a legendary theatre actor chew the scenery like Jonathan Pryce in that film. The only good thing about it was Teri Hatcher, who clearly should have been the main Bond girl.

    The World... was better.
  6. I need to have a Bond film fest at some point and just watch all of them. I've seen and loved almost all of them but I need my memory refreshed.

I need Spectre to build upon the Bond-ness of Skyfall. It's the only Daniel Craig era movie I've enjoyed to date.
  8. I kinda hope this is Daniel Craig's last Bond movie, I want a new Bond.

  10. Damn. Thought he'd be out after this one.

I believe he has one more after Spectre.
  12. Daniel Craig is flawless.

With that said, I want to see Idris Elba take on the mantle. I think after the resurgence with Casino Royale through to now, it shows that the Bond movies do best when they keep pushing to be different. Seeing a black Bond would be an interesting direction to take the franchise. Plus I don't think anyone could doubt Elba's chops as a both a serious actor or an action star. He might be a little too old for Hollywood's standards though, and they've already done the "aging Bond" storyline in Skyfall.
  13. GoldenEye is absolutely flawless. Judi Dench completely steals the show in her introductory scene where she completely owns Bill Tanner and comes out with the brilliant line:

"If I wanted sarcasm Mr. Tanner I'd talk to my children".

Her rebooted character storming out of the house of commons in Casino Royale delivering the bitchest monologue to her secretary was another highlight. I was crushed by the end of Skyfall.

I'm all for a black Bond, but David Oyelowo should take it.
  15. The casting of Judi Dench as M was just inspiring, I'm glad they gave her more and more to do as the series progressed. Its really funny looking back at the earlier films though, she does look so hard arsed, loved that she generally always had a drink in her hand! I was similarly crushed at the end of Skyfall.

..and sorry but no to a black Bond (for the sake of just having one), it just screams of stunt casting, and I didn't get the calls for Elba, surely too old to start a new Bond era. When Craig packs away he's PPK, I want the best actor to get the part, suitably aged, suitably skilled, if he's black, then fine, but lets get there first, because I can see Craig being there for a couple more at least when Spectre smashes.

  16. I've only ever watched Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace. Both were enjoyable at the time...
  17. I want a black Bond, but David Oyelowo is Q through-and-through to me.

Well, I totally agree they shouldn't cast a black man for the sake of it, which is why I put forth David Oyelowo, a fantastic actor whose casting would almost subvert the expectations of what a "black Bond" would look like. Not to say Idris Elba isn't a great actor, he certainly is, but it would be too obvious in my opinion.

Your point is well taken, @Rhombus, but I think he's got a range within him that hasn't been fully explored.
  19. Does anybody else think Henry Cavill would make a ridiculously good Bond?
