Welcome to the bops, basically rate, presented by me, @soratami and @DJHazey. A versus rate dedicated to fun, upbeat, carefree, boppy music released by twelve esteemed chanteuses over a ten year period (2013-2022). Both of us have hosted a number of versus rates overe the years, and thought it could be fun to collaborate on this one. Initially conceived as a "Balkan Pop Girls" rate, ultimately we decided it would be more fun to ditch that restriction and feature artists from all over the world, from Brazil to Romania to Sweden, each being represented by nothing but bops, bangers and slappers, because this song list doesn't ever let up. Anyone who's ever taken part in a versus rate knows things can get messy, and with most of these artists making their first appearance in a rate of this format, things should be even more exciting. I can't wait see how this turns out...

We decided it would be fun to split the artists up into two 'teams'. Since we're co-hosting, we figured the easiest way to divide up the reveals would be each of us representing a team. We attempted to make each team 'even' as far as how impactful the artists are on Popjustice, while also choosing artists that we brought to the table or are more familiar with.

When voting in the rate, for each team you will have the option to hand one song that illustrious 11 score. This also means each team's winner will also have a chance to be in Winner's Rate VI. When the reveals happen, our hint for the next elimination will simply be which team it is coming from, which will also tell you who will be posting it. It will be interesting to see which team does better and what kind elimination runs that teams go on.

That's great to hear! This one is actually pretty short too, sixty songs and only less than a handful cross the four minute mark, so it adds up to little over three hours, and goes by fast too since it's literally bops only.

Yeah, her English music fits the rate the best really, and it wouldn't make sense for her to be represented by her Spanish/Portuguese material when everyone else's rate entries are in English. That said, there is a touch of FL on the list - some Spanish in Banana and some French in Vanilla Chocolat and Rendez Vous.

Already mentioned this in the opening post but might as well repeat it in case anyone missed it: we're planning on doing a rate watch2gether session this Saturday, 18/03, at 5PM GMT. However, if there's anyone who would like to join but for whom that time/day doesn't work, we can always try setting a different date, so just let us know.

Way to pick one of my rate 11s for a feature and team name.

(However I'm getting overexposed to the cover and it might make me realize how bad the cover is.)

I'm looking forward to the rest of the music though.

Haha, yeah it's always going to be like that for rates like this, we picked some obvious forum favorites that fit the bill sonically, but also wanted to make sure we got some artists in there that don't usually get to be in the spotlight.

As for song choices, we had reasons for not picking certain songs that might be glaring omissions and we'll be periodically posting artist profiles during the voting period that go over a bit of that process.

Yeah, I was very surprised to see only one song from My 21st Century Blues in there, but then again the Spotify playlist says it was made in September last year (Escapism didn't come out til the month after). I'm assuming you and Sora already had the rate planned in advance, right?
