A boy band (or boyband) is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation, singing love songs marketed towards young females. -Wikipedia, 2016​

Boy bands are great.

Not everyone can be Grimes or Bjork - sometimes we just want to listen to 3-5 cute but nonthreatening guys singing simple songs about being in love. Boy bands have been a Thing since the 60s, and though the genre waxes and wanes in popularity, they’ll never go away for good (no matter how much people in the Youtube comments sections want them to).

We’ve got four main categories - Backstreet Boys, N Sync, One Direction, and The Other Ones. Some of the songs are great, some of them are forgettable, and some of them may make you cringe so hard your eyes roll out of your skull.

Note that voting doesn’t officially open until APRIL 19th. That’s because there’s a lot of boy band songs out there, so I’ve tried to keep it to the biggest hits - but I know I’ll forget something. If you notice any glaring omissions, let me know before the 19th and I’ll add them to the list!

I'm not sure if I should do this or not. I barely know any of the material, so my scores will be low and possibly inaccurate... But I really want to educate myself in the Backstreet Boys.

I would suggest adding a couple Blue songs. These were all UK top 5 hits:

If You Come Back #1
One Love #3
Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word #1 (but it's a cover and an Elton John collab)
U Make Me Wanna #4

Plus I Can was the UK's 2011 Eurovision entry.

That being said I don't actually know them at all (they're on my mental list with 5ive and BSB) and as I said I can't even promise I'll participate so feel free to ignore!

I had to look this up because the name made me think "flop Christian boyband" in the vein of True Vibe or Plus One.

I actually saw True Vibe on Wikipedia's list of American boybands and thought about including them just for you and @wackseed.

That's a good idea! I wasn't very familiar with Blue but I know they were massive. I'm gonna find a couple of their songs to throw in...

This rate has made my week. Wishing Rule The World was represented for Take That though @CorgiCorgiCorgi. (It went to #2, it's one of their staple songs, etc.) Also, I wouldn't mind if JLS was included as well, if only for She Makes Me Wanna.

I'd like to see songs by Blue as well, but I see they've already been mentioned.
