Grab a cop gun kinda crazy
She's poison but tasty
Yeah, people say, "Run, don't walk away"
'Cause she's sweet but a psycho
A little bit psycho
At night she's screamin'
"I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind"
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand
scene.
I cannot
believe that this went top ten in the US, which isn't any statement on its quality, but simply on the fact that it's such a throwback moment of whatever and doesn't fit in with ANY current radio or streaming trends and yet...there it went. Follow-up singles 'So Am I' and 'Torn by Ava Max' did absolutely nothing, so she's currently on track to be the next Natalie La Rose instead of the next LadGagy, but hey, she'll always have Sweet Butt Cyclone. And
that boy is a monster's destroyed pussy.
It isn't Amanda Ava's fault that some...
misguided...corners of the internet hyped ha up to to be the "return of REAL pop!!!" and all the dog whistling that comes with that title, so instead I choose to lean back and enjoy watching her fearlessly emulate all the forgotten gerls who were featured on NixMix and RnbXclusive back in 2008. Nice voice, and she's SO retro that I find it endearing, but none of it bodes well for her longevity - nor does the fact that there appears to be no album on the horizon. The cruel irony is that she's
so performative that there's nothing to latch on to, because it's all smoke and mirrors and a wig that got stuck in a grain thresher. I don't know where Ava goes from here, but it needs to be her 'SOS'. And not the Jordin Sparks one. (Banger though).
I'll leave you all with this fucking
hilarious sentence from the Sweet But Psycho wikipedia entry: "Max first encountered record producer Cirkut at his dinner party in LA around April 2014, during which she had several demos rejected from producers and songwriters." The mental image of her in a shitty wig forcing people to listen to her demos in the middle of a party and them giving a flat 'no'
on the spot...it's
strangekin at my Thanksgiving all over again.
