At the risk of getting dragged, does it really matter what her intentions are if she still ends up donating to these causes?
But I also don't think she deserves the skepticism or questioning of her sincerity because at the end of the day she still did it, regardless of whether she was late to the party in supporting these causes or not. I guess to me, it should just...be.
Being able to appreciate both the good it does and question her motives is the nuance that I think
is actually important sometimes. There's no shortage of queer pandering PR stunts in the entertainment industry in general and certainly no shortage in You Need To Calm Down's rollout(lyrics,video,donation/activism timing), so questioning sincerity, activism-for-the-moment..etc is the best way to detect true allyship, which I think is very important. I'm not calling her a homophobic monster, as I said, I don't doubt her intentions are anything but good. However a healthy dosage of skepticism until one has proven their allyship is essential. Look this has already been discussed to death so I'm not trying to engage here
(which is why I didn't initially quote you) and others have put this far more eloquently so while I may not be able to stop questioning her activism and let it "just...be" I can with this conversation.
