BPG 2019 - THE END

I did too until i saw you come for needy, Jonathan!!!!!

I just double checked and I gave it an EIGHT.

My dumb ass giving my other fave high marks thinking Lover would have a fighting chance

Possibly tea but also Rep was the logical conclusion of the decade long Bumpkin journey. Whatever... this era has been...it’s made entirely less sense.

Reputation was basically an implosion of anything compelling about Taylor as a celebrity (which has never been much in my opinion, her strengths lie elsewhere). From a purely structural/sonic perspective I get the appeal for sure, but it’s the album to me where Taylor’s on record presence is more a detriment than a benefit. Lover is bloated as hell but there’s also the artist there who I’ve always stanned with less emphasis on being a “stadium filling pop star” which was never sustainable for her and more emphasis on leaning into her singer songwriter strengths that set her up better for future releases.

leaning into her singer songwriter strengths.

I said bitch where.

I don’t disagree with your other points really - but she truly lost me here. Lover isn’t strong, it’s full of backtracking and weak ass retreads. Everything about the era has been thin. She’s saying “remember my strengths?!” while presenting none of them on record.

Give me sonic diversion over regression any day.

Maybe the future releases will be better. I don’t think so. She can do the bare minimum and have praise heaped upon her so...

I just don’t understand what you all see in It's Nice to Have a Friend.

It's a gorgeous little song; after she self-indulges for what feels like a lifetime in her love fairytale a nice change of theme and pace was welcome even though its placement on the tracklist doesn't do it any service, all the opposite.

Also that little trumpet solo towards the song's end is so unexpected and fits so well. It's all a glimmer of hope on an otherwise bleak record.

A 10!

This is undoubtably true but it also shows her lack of growth in the field that she’s best in and that’s the albums biggest problem.
