Honestly though I've read a few early Popjustice threads and this place seemed so wild/different back then. Notice how all the users being assholes aren't active here anymore? Glad those types of flat out nasty comments aren't tolerated here anymore!
The internet in general was…some of us were on message boards in 2006 and it was horrifying no matter where you were. Never mind the grooming on FitLads and Manhunt. Gross.
This wasn't exclusive to this forum. Until #freebritney peaked and eventually freed her, she was mostly a joke no matter what she did. And up to this day the basics will make the same old shaving jokes and all.
Britney wasn't just considered uncool. She was the butt of every joke. Sarah Silverman at VMA comes to mind, and how everybody was okay with her jokes. Not defending those obviously sad human beings posting shit here but it was also easy to get away with because Britney wasn't just a fallen angel, the bigger narrative was that she's the definition of worthless trash.
One of the reasons I avoid celebrity Twitter because stans of most celebrities aren't better today.

This narrative about Britney stans is a bit weird. Yes, we can be messy as hell but so can every other fan base, yet other girls aren’t constant targets. To this day you still have stans of her peers on social media making conservatorship jokes and saying the vilest things about her mental health.

I’ve come to appreciate the anime video but it was so traumatizing seeing it just chucked out there like chopped liver and then excluded from The Singles Collection. Sad days indeed.
Fans and Stans are a bit different though.
Let’s not forget that “stan” comes from Eminem’s “Stan”, a song about an obsessive fan’s writings who ends up killing his pregnant significant other and himself.
It doesn't mean that now though, does it. It just means super fan. It's not a negative thing to call someone unless the whole sentence is.
I guess it’s been “reclaimed” but still seen it used half of the time as an insult on Twitter, ddd. I figured the people using it positively were being sarcastic about it, not like actually being proud of it.

Good for you. The vocal take isn't really complimenting her but the bridge itself is great. But yeah... not worth the pain of the rest.
