Britney Spears

I mean, it's not really their fault? Team Con would've pressured them to edit any mention of the c-ship.

Most definitely. Although one could argue that it’s a big enough show that they could have said no but usually they adhere to the celebrity team demands.

What they should have done is upload it when the Free Britney movement started gaining ground as it was literally the only time in thirteen years that Britney had spoken publicly about the matter.

ITV would have agreed before hand that team con had final say on what was aired. Britney has enough star power that her team could request that.

My point is that airing this now the conservatorship has been dissolved due to Britney fighting for her right to freedom doesn’t really warrant any praise on ITVs behalf. Maybe some Britney fan at ITV thought it would be nice for Britney’s voice to be heard so released the unedited version but Britney already made her voice heard when she testified in court and again when she told her story in her book.

This clip doesn’t benefit Britney in any way but it does give itv / Jonathan Ross some headlines and some traffic to their YouTube, hence why it seems self serving to me.

But what would have happened if ITV decided to air this part in 2016? What would have been the consequences? A trial for the tv channel for breaking their contract with Britney's team? Then this would have made headlines and then put the limelight on the control of Team Con on Britney during the conservartorship. Do I miss something?

Anyway uploading the full interview now feels very opportunist.

He/Him

Honestly, nothing would have happened.

This clip is incredibly sad to watch within the context of everything that we now know about the abuse Britney suffered, but there’s nothing so inflammatory here, that her conservators couldn’t have pretty easily spun it. She’s not alleging abuse or even saying that she’s unhappy. She does look uncomfortable, but she also frequently seems to be uncomfortable in interviews. Putting my 2016 hat on, there’s a very easy “she is shading her team’s A&R skills - QUEEN!!” narrative that people most likely would have eaten up after Britney Jean.

And the show was probably less concerned about being sued and more concerned about preserving their relationship with Britney’s team so they could book her again on her next promo cycle.

I mean…a lot? Team Con would’ve stopped Britney from ever appearing on the show, for starters. Tristar could’ve also prevented their other clients from appearing on there, too. And yes, depending on the contract for Britney’s appearance, they could’ve sued ITV, too. Please don’t be naive.

Britney would have suffered some form of retribution from that decaying corpse of a father. We don't know if she did, actually.

Didn’t Britney say in one of her audio recordings of 2021/22 something along the lines of “I started to get my spark back in 2016 and they didn’t like that”.

For all we know, her saying what she did in that clip played a big part in them fighting back against her.

My Only Wish has a new (I think) Spotify background that’s honestly a bit scary looking at first?? But hopefully they will give it more of a push this year it has always deserved more (outside of UK retail hammering it!!!)

Okay so, I'm curious what your answers would be:

Let's say they're allotting 15 songs to be included in the movie.
3 have to be interludes so they won't really be but just a minute long. But the rest will be focused.
What songs do you pick to be included in the film?
Mine:

Baby One More Time
Born to Make you Happy
Oops I Did it Again
Stronger interlude
Slave 4 U
Me against the music
Toxic
Breathe on Me (interlude)
Gimme More
Piece of Me
Break the Ice (interlude)
Womanizer
Circus
Kill the Lights/ If You Seek Amy (interlude)
Hold It Against Me
Work Bitch
Slumber Party
Do You Wanna Come Over

(I did 4 interludes instead of a 15th song)

Interesting question.

I feel like the choice of director (John M Chu who will be coming off the back of Wicked and who has previously directed In The Heights and the Step Up movies) suggests they are going to go for big production musical numbers.

I think the below will be included in some capacity. Some as recreations of iconic performances, some as short clips to embed us in a time period (her rehearsing, in recording studio, music video set etc.), and then some as background music to score particular moments of the movie.

…Baby One More Time
(You Drive Me) Crazy
Oops!… I Did it Again
Stronger
Lucky
I’m Slave 4 U
Overprotected
I’m Not a Girl Not Yet a Woman
Toxic
Everytime
Gimme More
Piece of Me
Circus
Til the World Ends
Work Bitch

(Plus Boys if Britney has a say in what songs are included)

Edit: I’m also hopeful we’ll get a new song from Britney. Hopefully something she writes or co-writes for the ending to sum up where she is now.

Oh I like it.

I also hope they don't try to get someone to imitate Britney's vocals.
When they used Taron for Rocketman, they embraced his own singing style and didn't try to replicate Elton's voice but you could tell they were paying homage to it.
I hope they do the same with Britney. That way we don't get someone feeling like a cheap Britney impersonator and someone who can make it their own but still do it right

I’m in two minds about what I’d prefer but I think I’m leaning towards just using Britney’s vocals / the original recordings of the songs.

Even if they can find an exceptional actress that is able to embody Britney’s performance ability AND vocals then you are still left with the issue of having to replicate the production of the original tracks. I just think unless it’s done with incredible care they are going to sound like cheap and flat Glee cover versions to the point where it’s going to ruin the movie.

Also Britney spent most of her career lip syncing to basically the studio versions of her songs so I don’t really see the issue with the actress in the movie doing the same.

I can’t see Britney being happy with someone else singing her songs.

But then again I can’t see Britney being happy with any kind of portrayal.

I do worry it’s too soon for Britney and as such it will be stuck in development hell for ages and ultimately be cancelled.

It’s her story so she should absolutely have involvement but I think that will be challenging for any director to manage as she still seems to (understandably) still have a lot of unresolved trauma attached to her experiences.

Having said that it seems she found writing the book a healing process so hopefully this will be too.
