I've never really been that into Bucks Fizz but some people I know absolutely adore them so I think I'll take part in this.

You need to turn all those song titles into proper links though.

What he said. About the links, anyway. I've been a Fizz fan since that Eurovision night.

    Yay! Love The Fizz!!!

Look at Mike Nolan trying to prize Cheryl's legs open there, though!!

  5. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

I never thought I'd see THIS rate on here, this has made me so very happy! It's The Fizz that got me into pop music way way back in 1981!

Gonna have to give this some serious time and thought!

  6. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Count me in Simes1970….as it's mostly an 80's thing, I should make the effort and enter…besides they made some cracking tunes in their day!

  7. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Which is exactly why I made sure the clamouring for yet more Rihanna/Beyonce rates to jump the queue didn't hold sway. We need rates like this one.

  8. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Well then, thank you very much Eric! Now watch my disappointment as all my faves end up in the lower reaches!

...and well done (and good luck) to Simes1970, good to see the links attached to the list!

  9. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Urgh. How are people thinking up more ways to rate the same 5 artists over and over and over?

I can't think of anything more boring than a Beyonce rate... Except possibly listening to her back catalogue.

  10. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Despite having the biggest crush on Mike Nolan I was never really into their stuff at the time. Just having a listen to some of these songs and they really did do some great songs.

I'm up for this. What are the rules (of the game)? Ive only ever done a Goldfrapp rate and can't remember the rules. Cheers

Over the next week or so we are going to look at the UK chart singles, with details on their first chart run not including reentries. The videos will not be added as they will come into play at the countdown part of the rate. So let's begin with the track that brought Bucks Fizz to the forefront Making Your Mind Up.

The track first entered the UK Top 40 on March 28th 1981 at No24, before making it's way to the Top 3 weeks later. It stayed in the UK chart for 12 weeks. The chart run was 24-5-2-1-1-1-4-6-16-26-37-53. It's last appearance was 13/6/81.

Onto single no2 Piece Of The Action. This first charted on the 6 June 1981, spending 9 weeks on the chart entering at no57 and just like Making Your Mind Up spent it last week at no53.

  14. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Pye all you need to do is rate the singles for a score of between 1 and 10. Once completed then send me a PM with the results and in around 4 weeks from now the countdown will begin.

  15. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

It's strange how Piece Of The Action never quite caught on...the second week jump of 32 places suggested another big hit, and then it hit a wall in the teens. Mind you, it's not their best.

  16. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

I did buy it at the time and thought it was great but compared to some of the singles yet to come it is not quite there, but saying that I'm still struggling to rate it as at one time I would have given it full marks but now? Suppose that is why I can think about it for a few weeks.I do know after relistening to all the singles over the last week it's the chorus of this one that has stuck in my head along with When We Were Young.

  17. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Apologies for the sizes of these pictures but trying to find some of them is a nightmare. Final track for today is One Of Those Nights the first ballad single from the band. It spent 10 weeks on the chart entering at no73 on the 15th August 1981.

That chart run suggests a real struggle. It's the best ABBA single that ABBA never made.

  19. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

Think I might give this rate a go. I'm currently obsessing over one song. I remember it well but had absolutely no idea it was a Bucks Fizz song, it's so dark and moody, I love it. Just bought me a greatest hits cd too.

  20. Re: Bucks Fizz The Singles Rate 1981-1991 Voting Open until 29/9/14

As much as I love you for doing this, it's going top get awfully depressing pretty quickly, oh the gems that didn't even make the Top 40.

Are you happy for comment too. I could reminisce for paragraphs on each track but I promise to (try) to keep it short and sweet!

I suspect that might be When We Were Young? I think that might do well on this rate, funny, because it's a song I didn't quite care for at the time, but have appreciated so much more over time.

And yes, its funny how the follow-up to making Your Mind Up (relatively) struggled, only for 82/83 to see them bounce to the top. Thank God for The Land of Make Believe!
