Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

Oh my god this is brilliant and they should definitely revive some form of animated series.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the show recently and I really, really wish they’d find a way to do something in this universe again. Joss really ruined things, huh.

Like why do we not have a Fray TV series yet.

A high budget Fray TV series would be excellent. I’d geek out so much seeing the scythe on tv again.

Or it could even serve as one season of the often suggested Tales of a Slayer anthology series, focusing on a different slayer each season.

Sucks will likely never happen.

Wasn’t it the case that because she wasn’t in the opening credits and therefore billed like everyone else, she was paid less than them?

Basically, yes, she'd have been on a different pay rate. It was like why Anthony Stewart Head always had the "And" credit on the end of the intro, there's a weird contractual and financial reason attached to it.

Yeah but that was for a little gag that Joss wanted to do.

My understanding is that it was Ambers choice to remain a guest star rather than being bumped up to a main star in the opening credits sequence. I can’t be bothered to find the exact quote but I think she said remaining a guest star gave her more freedom and she valued that over any potential extra money and increased commitments.

He/They

I didn’t hate Fred per se … but I didn’t really love her either and I just remember thinking she was a poor man’s Willow tbh (sorry. I love Amy Acker tho).

Mostly I just found the Wesley/Fred stuff annoying. And I enjoyed the show when it was a minimal cast.

But I watched the show when I was about 12 and I haven’t watched since (I don’t think I even finished the series) but maybe if I were to rewatch, as an adult, I might feel different about it and enjoy Fred/ Wesley more.
Sorry I know this post is pretty old, but I haven't been in the Buffy thread much, and noticed this discussion.

I admire the restraint of fans that didn't finish or even watch Angel. I was absolutely obsessed with the whole Buffy/Angel-verse during its original broadcast/airing, and I wouldn't have missed a second. Novels, spin offs, magazines... I had anything Buffy related.

Haha my unhinged 12 year old self resented Angel, as it was the hot new thing at time, and I remember all the kids at school saying it was better than Buffy etc.

I also blamed Angel for the dip in quality after S3.

I was a strange child lol.

Nothing strange about those takes!
I think Joss Whedon spreading himself too thin had definitely something to do with some of Buffy's problems.
And I also had a bit of resentment towards Angel because it was "cooler" and "darker" and the boys in school preferred it to girly Buffy (I still think Buffy is obviously superior).

Ha ha yes, exactly !

I think splitting the shows onto different networks made it even harder for my
12 yo self to accept Angel as I think they weren’t really allowed to crossovers anymore, so they stopped feeling connected.

With no more crossovers, mentions, or references— Angel rightfully became its own separate entity from Buffy. But the crazy buffy Stan in me hated that and I was only really interested when in it when it was more intertwined with BTVS.

Thank god they still managed to do the Faith storylines after Buffy left WB, though.

Strangely I don't remember any of the boys in my school watching Angel. I mostly remember adults preferring it. I always found it quite enjoyable. I love Cordelia and Darla, so it was great getting to see more of them. Drusilla and Darla were iconic.

I think the show benefitted from not having Joss so heavily involved. Most of the problems in Season 4 seem to have been caused by him.

Doing a rewatch, and my god the steep fluctuations in quality per episode on S4 are quite something.
Yeah, it's a ride, because season 4 possibly has more of the "best" stand alone episodes of any season; Hush, Something Blue, Freshman, Who Are You, Restless, New Moon Rising, even the Halloween one is a hoot. But it also has so many of the most outright dull episodes too.

The one where Giles becomes a demon is also one of the most underrated episodes ever for me.
