Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

Yeah, it's a ride, because season 4 possibly has more of the "best" stand alone episodes of any season; Hush, Something Blue, Freshman, Who Are You, Restless, New Moon Rising, even the Halloween one is a hoot. But it also has so many of the most outright dull episodes too.

The one where Giles becomes a demon is also one of the most underrated episodes ever for me.
A New Man is excellent- Giles scaring Maggie Walsh just for the hell of it ties with “You really are campaigning for Bitch of the Year…” as my favourite comedy moment.

I quite like Beer Bad, but I accept this is a minority opinion after seeing a whole series rate where this came in 143/144 episodes. I think it's inoffensive fun. What college-set show doesn't have an episode where a main character acts stupid from beer?

Beer Bad has always been diabolical and I think it was a symptom of the writers trying to inelegantly age-up the premise of the monsters in the show acting as metaphors for the horrors of high school into being the horrors of young adulthood. I think they were probably so distracted by the show’s growing pains moving it from a high school setting they just didn’t give it much thought beyond that.

Such a rare clunker for a show where the quality bar is set so high.

I went into Beer Bad with the expectation that it would be the worst episode ever and that might have been to its benefit becuase... It's definitely not good but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was ocassionally quite funny - whacking Parker with a club stands out as quite satisfying. I'd put a lot of the monster of the week stuff in the first two seasons beneath it.

Obviously there are the notable misfire episodes, but I oddly get more of a kick out of the atrocities like Beer Bad than I do something like... Doomed, for instance? Was probably the only episode of my current rewatch where I completely lost interest.

Usually, Buffy fillers at least have a decent/stupid enough 'monster of the week' to have some vague value, but absolutely fucking nothing happened in that episode whatsoever. I couldn't remember it in the slightest coming into it, and I've forgotten everything that happened since I watched it two weeks ago.

I NEED this in my life. They immediately need to order 8 seasons and I’ll fork over 8 years of a Hulu premium subscription fee.

I have so much faith in this. Show me what the life of a woman is like who was never meant to live beyond 20. How is she doing and how is she grappling with all the awful sh*t she has seen.

In the streaming age, I really think a Buffyverse reboot with a new slayer would really work. Focus on a new group and new scooby gang with older characters being weaved in where ever they can feel natural. (None of the vampire characters would work though due to how much they've aged). I'd build up to Buffy/Sarah Michelle Gellar coming back as something closer to the finale of the first season or something.
It’s been on my mind so much lately. I manifested it!

Does this seem in capable hands?

The only Chloé Zhao project I’ve seen is Nomadland which was excellent but very different to Buffy. I heard Eternals was kinda bad.

And then the only project from the writers I’ve seen is Suits. Which is again very different to Buffy.
