Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

I love the idea of Buffy as a mother, living a normal life, suddenly having to come out of retirement (while keeping her secret from the kids), fighting evil again.

Yeah, I think they'd need to be careful with returning characters and use them over time, so they don't alienate new fans. The whole reason the Scream reboot franchise did SO well compared to the 4th instalment is the focus on a new generation of characters for younger audiences, while keeping the legacy characters included in logical ways. I think they should approach this in a similar way if they want it to be a hit with multiple seasons (which would be good for opportunities to see more and more of the old characters popping up)

They definitely need to avoid turning the show into an endless wave of reunion moments. The focus needs to be on a new cast for a new generation of fans. I'd limit returning faces to Willow and maybe Giles for the first season.

Also, I'd prefer no Angel at all. It'll only resurrect all the old shipping stuff and it would be nice to think Buffy has actually moved on rather than fall back into it twenty years later.

He/They
All those other slayers, how awful S7 was, all that lore...
If they're smart (and I feel they will be), they could take a look at Dr Who's 2004 reboot, and start very afresh, and introduce the audience to things as needed.

Idk I’m a bit skeptical about this tbh and I’d prefer if this stood completely on its own with only occasional nods/ references to the Buffy and the gang. And SMG taking more of a BTS role. I love the idea of Buffy and the Scoobies being these mysterious figures in the background, hinted at but never fully revealed.

There’s always been something kinda exciting about imagining what Buffy might is up to 20 years later without actually knowing.

I also feel like their stories ended so perfectly that I don’t want to see them undone.

I am shocked that they’re bringing it back, but it feels right! So excited to have Sarah Michelle Gellar back in this role. She deserved more from her career post 2005.

I think having Buffy as a school counsellor/watcher to a new slayer makes the most sense. She probably will be hiding that she herself is a slayer, only to reveal it at the end of the season when she comes in to save the day from the Big Bad. Sprinkle in a few appearances from the legacy cast where appropriate, but essentially focus the new show on the new slayer, her relationship with Buffy, and a new scooby gang and we could have a great continuation.

I hope Xander died along the way. Of the male cast, I'd love to see Giles return at least as a guest, and I think there's a very realistic chance of Oz returning (I have no idea why).
This feels likely since he and SMG are still quite friendly. I'm sure he'd show his face in some way.

But echoing the sentiment that the cameos need to be balanced and not too fan-servicey.

I kind of don’t want this to be a teen focused show. The original was, and it was great and worked, but everyone (including most fans of the show) are grown now so I’d like it to have a more adult feel to it.

I hear you but I don’t think there is enough demand for a show tailored purely to the original fans. My understanding is that although Buffy had a level of cultural phenomena, in terms of viewers it was always a cult show that was at risk of being cancelled and did well to last for 7 seasons.

As much as they will want original fans to tune in, in order for the show to be successful it will need to bring in a whole new audience.

Also the heart of the show and what separated it from other shows was using monsters and demons as metaphors for the horrors of adolescence. I think this is something that they will be keen to recapture.

Also with this being Hulu does that mean it will likely be on Disney+ in the UK?

Seth Green is allegedly one of the names on the Epstein lists. And there’s some very intense rumours/ accusations floating around him.

if true, let’s not put him on a show with teens.

The more I think about this, the more nervous I get. So many of these revivals end up canceled on a cliffhanger and don't get any real resolution or just quietly go away (see: Veronica Mars, also on Hulu). I don't want to see a Buffy go out like that, especially since we already have such perfect resolution from the original series. And at the end of the day, Hulu will treat it like any other show - with Sarah returning and an Oscar-winning director, it won't come cheap, so if it doesn't perform, they'll cancel it like they would anything else. It's special to us, but it's just another set of numbers to any executive.

I'm also just anxious about how they'll choose to approach it. I do have faith that they're going to try their best to get it right, but every idea that pops up just feels... less than thrilling to me.

They won’t do it but Spike could have aged because he fulfilled the Shanshu prophecy.

To be honest, the last thing I want is a parade of guest appearances from characters who have been killed off. I think it leads you down the road of constant dream sequences or undoing the impact of what came before.

Huh? Did you see this in some random TikTok videos? I can't find a single source for any of this, unless you're talking about the guy who was arrested after stalking Seth and assaulting Paris Jackson.

Precisely, it was never a huge show even at its peak so building a brand new show only around that aging fanbase is asking for swift cancellation. It will need to bring in a new, young audience who find the same kind of resonance our generation did with the supernatural metaphors and struggles of young adulthood.

I’d keep Buffy, guest appearances from Giles and start afresh. I just have no interest in the skeletal remains of the Scooby gang being resurrected.

I quite like the idea that they got on with their lives but Buffy never quite escaped the fight.

I think this is the route they should go, but I imagine Hulu is likely to be ordering the writers to find some convoluted way to get Angel and Spike involved for an episode or two to get fans excited.

Personally, I think they have to go back to basics - start at a place where the core new cast are 'normal' teenagers going to school, living fairly normal day-to-day lives, and something pulls Buffy into their orbit to help the new slayer. Giles would make sense at some point, and I can see Willow being easy enough to introduce, too, but there's no way Nicholas Brendan is appearing (I made the mistake of looking at his Instagram after this was announced, and it broke my heart to see the state he's currently in) and I don't really think many others would make sense, either.

I think there’s no way around this. But as long as they don’t go down the CW/Netflx Riverdale route that only really appeals to teens I think it’ll be fine.

Look at shows like Gen V, Invincible, Yellowjackets, etc. All based around teenagers but have much broader appeal.

You’re right… it’s definitely a conspiracy which stemmed from an accusation made from Isaac Kappy before his passing. So yes, probably some crazy q-anon.

However, Seth does runs in some interesting circles. I’ll leave it at that idk.
