Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

Yellowjackets is exactly the tone they should be aiming for, with its focus on a teenage cast but some iconic older actresses - and it works really well.

It could also be the vital x factor ingredient that makes the show into a hit. With a younger audience really connecting with the new teenage cast and the older fanbase obviously stanning for the legacy cast, you could build up a really solid audience.

I'm super interested to see how they round out the cast and if they'll try to get some other big names attached. Chloe directing will no-doubt attract some big talent, and Buffy's circle would conceivably look a little different 25 years after high school/college, so they could have some fun casting iconic actresses alongside her in recurring parts. Like, give me Aubrey Plaza as Buffy's new BFF and an all-female Watchers Council led by Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman, and Angela Bassett (shut up, I can dream!).

This is honestly what I’m hoping for. I’m sure the diehards will be going it’s going to be the same gang (and I’m sure that’s pretty much what Hulu will do) but I’d much prefer a different cast of contemporaries as Buffy’s friends.

Lemme give Sasheer Zamata’s number to Hulu real quick.

When I say recurring I don’t mean like she’d be a side character she’d still very much be THE character, but maybe a more elusive presence at first and to be introduced maybe more slowly in a “you guys are in a crisis, I’m on my way”, kind of way. it might be really exciting if they built up to her first appearance a bit before integrating her fully with the newer cast.
Reduce this idea to a cold open with Buffy appearing just before the opening credits roll à la “When She Was Bad”.

I don’t want them to hold off on Buffy to tease the audience for too long when it’s possible this could a be a one series deal. I want to see my girl back and her name on the marquee. But considering a continuation was pure Fantasy.mp3 a day ago, I’ll take whatever and be crying all the same.

I’m Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and you are?

Count me in for someone who would prefer that the old cast kept to a minimum… even SMG to an extent. I don’t want them to ruin that story. A new story with the myth of Buffy in the background somewhere would be the dream, but I can see why the SMG casting is integral to getting this made.

I don’t think it matters much if Anya (or any other dead characters) are wanted/come back, reanimation has happened before in the Buffyverse. I am hoping for no Angel though.

Hulu won’t have Star Wars/Disney de-ageing budget for this, so I doubt they can afford more than a couple of episodes a season of Angel or Spike if they did get brought back.

If this even gets picked up I do unfortunately think it could likely be cancelled after 1 season simply because it will be challenging to get it right.

But if it does by some miracle last for multiple seasons then I think the only recurring character from the original show to appear in the first season should be Buffy. Someone else said it but I anticipate she will then become less prominent in an attempt to get the show to stand on its own.

They would never do what I’m about to suggest in a million years because it would taint her character but… if they wanted to be really bold then a recently turned vampire Buffy being the season 1 big bad facing off against a new slayer would be kind of epic in terms of setting up the new show for an exhilarating first season. And it would certainly give SMG more to than the Giles stand in character she’s rumoured to be returning as.

Even if the first season isn’t as amazing as it should/could be (though I have faith), I can’t see it not doing well. The show has a huge, dedicated fanbase - bigger than when it was first on TV. If you add in new viewers too and the fact the streaming model has made TV more accessible than ever, I think they have a surefire hit on their hands. The news has been trending everywhere today.

Unless in the unlikely event that it’s genuinely terrible and unwatchable, and it seems in good hands, I cannot see it not landing. Fingers crossed. Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic / keeping my expectations low so I’m not disappointed.

Buffy's fanbase has continued for the last 22 years, to be staunch and nostalgic and relentless in supporting the show. I see it doing well and opening a bridge to new fans to the original series.

I want Buffy, Giles, Faith, Anya and Willow back. Xander can come back as long as he is killed off in a dramatic finale/mid-season shocker.

I’m calling it now... THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!!

The pairing of Zhao and the Buffy series is a match made in heaven. I think The Eternals is a so-so film in context of the MCU. However Zhao directed one the best looking Sci-Fi/Fantasy films in years.

I really want her to direct the X-Men!

Even though I have my doubts about how it’s all going to work out just seeing Buffy dust a vamp in glorious HD is going to be such an incredible moment and make it all worthwhile.

Nah – kill him off, off-screen, somewhere in the time between the original series and the new series.

He’s easily one of the worst characters in the original show and my dislike of him grows with every rewatch.

He’s selfish, self-centred, and egotistical.

The way he creeps after Buffy is uncomfortable through a modern lens. He treats Cordelia and then Anya horrendously.

He deserved to die in the finale over Queen Queen Anya.

The very worst kind of straight white man.

I’m torn when it comes to Xander as I don’t like the character, but I do feel like Nicholas could really do with the uplift. He’s had a very troubled few years and it’s so sad to see his Instagram posts. But I doubt they’d go near him.

I’m with Sarah when it comes to Bangel too. They milked Spikes character to death by the end and I’d much rather they use their de-ageing budget on David.

I can see them maybe giving Michelle Trachtenberg a call and Juliet Landau as they could probably just use makeup to de-age her. Please god no Andrew.
