Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

Agree on them milking Spike to death, Angel left the show at the right time - by the end of season 3, he was dead weight. Spike worked well in season 4 and 5, but season 6 and 7 he left me cold.

Buffy, as a show was really careful with Angel's cameos, they were always used correctly. I'm glad he was in the finale because it felt right, but left before the climax because it would not have felt right him being there.

I have zero interest in either James or David returning.

I don’t believe they will be able to successfully de age them with the budget available and confining them to the shadows or in permanent vamp makeup is going to require me to suspend too much disbelief to the point it’s going to take me out of the fantasy.

I’d prefer spiritual successors to the characters. Personally I don’t take any issue with the show repeating a few of the same beats. Have the new slayer fall in love with a brooding vampire and Buffy can make a joke about them having the same type. That sort of thing.

Nah – kill him off, off-screen, somewhere in the time between the original series and the new series.

He’s easily one of the worst characters in the original show and my dislike of him grows with every rewatch.

He’s selfish, self-centred, and egotistical.

The way he creeps after Buffy is uncomfortable through a modern lens. He treats Cordelia and then Anya horrendously.

He deserved to die in the finale over Queen Queen Anya.

The very worst kind of straight white man.
Joss said he modelled Xander after himself, so checks out.

I‘m still realizing that this is very probably happening. Feels like a fever dream still. Very curious to see how the tone will be, without Joss attached. I imagine they would rather create their own identity instead of mimicking the tone and feel of the original series.

Reading all of your fanfic transports me right back into the early days of the interwebs. This is surreal.

For any gamers imagine if this becomes hugely successful and we get another Buffy game. I used to love the first one on Xbox and Chaos Bleeds wasn’t quite as good but still a lot of fun.

God I hope so! I’d love a new Buffy game. Or even a remaster of the originals. The first being exclusive to Xbox (and only the original console) is so annoying.

I enjoy Chaos Bleeds but a remaster on PS5 would be welcomed.

I’m on my rewatch of Bad Eggs and, while not anywhere near a top tier episode, the fun of the monster-of-the-week has to be brought back just for the ridiculousness of some of it. The fun genre hopping through those episode stories is so great.

I’m pretty sure the season will be 6-8 episodes so im not sure there’s room for filler - but monster of the week that ties into a mini big bad is a must.

I just need this reboot to court some favour with the awards crowds so Sarah can get her long deserved Emmy.
SMG already has a Daytime Emmy!!!!1!!

Thinking of starting this and Angel now that I've heard about a new series!

In my country, one of the main TV channels aired what they dubbed the "Saturday Trilogy" back in the day. That night, a rotating slot of three shows would air and Buffy was part of them among Charmed, Roswell, Freaky Leaks, Smallville, Tru Calling and others I recall from my childhood. Like these, I've probably watched tons of episodes or even seasons but mainly out of order due to missing so many and catching random reruns here and there. I've never finished any of them either, sadly. I also have vague memories of my parents renting a movie but it doesn't seem like it's actually a thing? Might have been a cassette with just a couple episodes.

Since then, I remember AVClub doing a Best Halloween Episodes feature and it led me to watch the one where Buffy loses her voice back in 2014, but I figure it's about time I start from the very beginning. Knowing Amy Acker who I had a crush on back then pops up at some point is a bonus nn.

Will try to avoid spoilers, even though some key moments are so well known in TV fandoms I'm probably already aware of them.

Thinking about how Fool For Love/ Darla is one of the best and most well done crossover episodes Buffy and Angel ever did.
Darla/Julie Benz was great in Angel too. I'm nearing the end of my Buffy/Angel rewatch, and I'd forgotten how important she was.

Also, despite what happened with Cordelia, I'm actually really enjoying Season 5 this time around. During the original broadcast, I really resented them binning Cordy and shoe-horning in Spike, but David and James actually have such great chemistry.

I would also say that Season 3 is probably the show at its peak. Holtz was such a great antagonist, and his backstory is heartbreaking. Season 4 wasn't the show at it's best. Connor was insufferable, and the beast was quite a generic villain. Charisma did a great job though.
