Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel

‘Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.’

That bit made me tear up. I actually can’t believe we’re likely getting a Buffy reboot, with Sarah herself involved.

I’ve loved Buffy from the very first moment I watched it, all the way back in like… 2000 when I was six years old.

When the final episode aired, I recorded it on VHS so I could watch it as often as I liked. I used that very same VHS to record Britney’s Toxic video the following year (and the MTV making of special). The 90s pop culture girlies really had me by the throat, even then.

Sarah is Buffy Anne Summers. She’s intrinsic to the show’s enduring legacy and only she could have brought to life such an incredible, extraordinarily written character. And honestly, I’ve never been interested in any reboot that didn’t involve her

Should this show take off, I hope it’s well received and I hope Sarah is finally given her long overdue flowers as an actress, playing not only her most iconic role, but one of the most iconic female characters of all time.

I am so ridiculously excited and surprisingly emotional at all of this.

A really lovely post from Sarah. It’s nice that she is such an integral piece in the show returning.

I’m going to watch Eternals tonight to get a better idea of Chloe’s direction style. I watched a few episodes of Poker Face last night (Lilla and Nora Zuckeman are the show runners of this) and enjoyed it.

I’m gonna need this to happen! It cannot stall at this stage! In terms of a Buffy reboot with Sarah’s involvement, this is now or never!

Yeah, part of me will always be a bit nervous/cautious about this until it airs, but reading how long it's been gestating, that Chloe was the one who reached out to get talks started (!!!), and how committed they all were to waiting until they had the right idea... it just feels reassuring to know how much care is being taken. And it will always make me happy to know that Sarah feels the weight of how loved the show and her character is. You sometimes wonder if actors/creatives really understand how much their work means to people, and in this case, it feels like she truly feels all the love.

I am lost for words, I wasn’t really believing it at first but now after reading that and happy crying I cannot wait. Buffy means so much to me I was at high school when it was first out and it was my safe place when I was able to watch.

I struggled at that age and had lots of negative life experiences feeling I wasn’t right or didn’t belong. Buffy made me feel heard, wanted and that it’s ok to be different and that you will find your people to be around! It feels like we’re all going to be reunited with that friend we haven’t seen in so long.

I cannot wait for this beautiful show to be back and for Buffy to be kicking arse and delivering more puns, this news has made me so happy! Long live BUFFY

He/Him
Actually so buzzed for this after reading Sarah’s post.

I can still remember sitting down to watch the very first episode on BBC Two with my older brother. He watched it because he fancied Sarah, I watched it and became obsessed instantly.

I’m so ready for this. Even if it doesn’t work out, I really appreciate how much Sarah cares about this.

Me too. I was 9!

I genuinely do think it's all systems go for the most part. The buzz is huge.

Chloe was the one who reached out to get talks started (!!!)

I loved her comments about Chloe in the post, and it definitely sounds like it's going to be a passion project for her. In this way, it sort of reminds me of Radio Silence doing Screams 5 and 6. They were fans of the original movies which is why those two films found an audience and turned out pretty great despite everything.

I definitely got emotional reading the post. I'm so excited for this.

An extract from a Vogue interview with Sarah from Feb 2023. Interesting to read it now, after her quote from yesterday saying she first met with Chloe three years ago. It sounds like there was still some hesitation from her at the point of this interview.

In the past, you talked about being okay with a Buffy reboot. How do you feel about the possibility of that now?

One hundred percent, if the story is right. The way the show was left, any girl who wants the power can have the power. It doesn’t even have to be Buffy’s story, per se; it could be any of the slayers’ stories when you open it up like that. But it’s hard—we were a TV series based on a movie that maybe wasn’t as popular, and it was already hard to overcome what we faced. Now, to have to come in and do it and inevitably have the comparisons to the show that is indelibly in people’s minds and holds up, it’s a huge uphill battle. You have to be really willing to take that on, and you have to have a very specific point of view to do that. I wouldn’t want to be the one to do it. That’s too much pressure for me.

It honestly feels like I’m 18 again, having just discovered Buffy (season 3) and checking spoilers for an upcoming season 4. This is literally happening and to read Sarah say those things with such conviction just blows my mind. I’ve been a huge fan of several shows but nothing *quite* ever got my excitement the way Buffy did. I still go over quotes from Gingerbread, Pangs, Phases, (insert pretty much any episode from 1-4) if I need a boost and even still make up my own What If scenarios for many of the seasons.
I truly hope they pull this off.

It just goes to show this isn't something Sarah would even think about doing unless it's genuinely as strong as the original run.
