1. Frozen
Score: 9.646
Highest score: 10 x 28 (P’NutButter, lalaclairi_, TheJapaneseJesus, TheAlmightyAloud, lemonsqueezyy, etienne, GhettoPrincess, tylerc904, Pop Gaz, Aester, 2014, One Stop Candy Shop, push the button, Mushroom, JamesJupiter, If You Go, Pat, Yeahyeahyeah, RetroPhysical, Flurocarbon, Jwentz, Mr Blonde, dodoriazarbon, Jeffo, A&E, Conan, sortami, Imagineitwasus)
Lowest score: 8 x 2 (Sick Sad World, Alchemy Jones)
The song with the most 10s, and the highest low score in the rate. This striking, electronic ballad is one of Madonna’s most radical reinventions. A bit of a gamble to release this as the lead single, but it paid off. Reaching #2 in the US and making it to #1 in the UK. I remember seeing the video for this as a child and just being blown away. I became a stan the moment she hits the ground and bursts into a murder of crows.
Jwentz: The bubbling production under the chorus his absolutely hypnotic.
TheAlmightyAloud: A solid 10. It's the experience that the album builds too, which serves the track very well. You did indeed melt my heart, Madonna.
GhettoPrincess: Probably one of my favourite Madonna songs, it's an epic song/video.
etienne: From the moment I heard this song it became my favourite Madonna song and that has never changed since.
One Stop Candy Shop: A glorious song and a perfect choice as lead single. It was thrilling to see such a piece of art charting all over the world. If we were to do a Madonna ranking of her entire career, I think this would end up at the top.
Pop Gaz: The true standout on this album, and one of her very best, gorgeous song.
tylerc904: I don't know if I could choose between this and Power of Good-Bye as the best on the album, but this is truly a stunning moment in her discography.
Jersey: Just a smidgen too long, but god damn, those strings are everything. Lyrically, one of the best from here as well.
Cowboystyle: Great comeback single for Madonna but not the best single for me.
and our runner-up....
2. Together Again
Score: 9.158
Highest score: 10 x 22 (P’NutButter, lalaclairi_, TheJapaneseJesus, TheAlmightyAloud, spillett, Cowboystyle, tylerc904, 2014, JamesJupiter, Alchemy Jones, Farnaby, Pat, Yeahyeahyeah, RetroPhysical, Jersey, Jwentz, Mr Blonde, A&E, Conan, soratmi, Imagineitwasus, Markus1981)
Lowest score: 7 x 5 (vikeyeol, Jonathan27, acrimonious mammoth, dodoriazarbon, Daniel!)
She put up a good fight, but wasn’t able to melt Frozen. Janet’s tribute to lost loved ones, this song originally started as a ballad, but was rearranged into this classic pop jam. The song was a hit, reaching #4 in the UK and topping the charts in the US. This song always reminds me of my mother, as she adores it, but somehow never realised it was about people that were no longer alive. I guess she just thought it was about a long distance relationship?
Jwentz: The melody lends to the song feeling instantly familiar which pairs well for a song about longing for those gone. One of the finest singles in this rate.
TheAlmightyAloud: Amazing moment for pop.
GhettoPrincess: I love this one, definitely a Janet classic.
Cowboystyle: Amazing and truly deserves to be Janet's best selling UK single.
etienne: One of her two genuine chances to claim a UK number 1. She was robbed. Should have been number 1 for weeks.
Jersey: Carefree, groovy and put a smile on my face on the first listen. If that occurs, you've found a keeper. Just wonderful.
Yeahyeahyeah: Obvious 10. If this isnt top 3 in the rate then everyone should be ashamed!
Pop Gaz: A fantastic song, a great sentiment and a great video.
tylerc904: A classic.
Alchemy Jones: Someone please mash this up with Nothing Really Matters. 90’s bliss.
dodoriazarbon: I like the place this song came from, and It reminds me of shopping malls in the mid-90's, so there's that, but it just does very little for me these days.
So there we have it! Thank you so much to everyone who participated in any way- voted, commented, dragged. I had a ball! I really love these four albums, and it was great to obsess over them again.
