So correct me if I'm wrong but are labels.. fighting for her? The industry support is baffling. Help me here, I don't get her appeal at all. Her stans can tell me whatever about the uniqueness of her voice, it's still very marmite where 90% of people don't like it. She obviously has room to grow since she's really young but as of now she doesn't appear to be a great lyricist and she's not a great performer, vocally or danse wise. Even looks wise, she's pretty basic. I get she's popular among the teens and has always been the favourite of 5H (because what a better way to get stans these days than being 'one of us' and being linked to other fandoms (1D, that unknown singer, the ugliest from 5sos, Taylor), but is that it? Is she a Selena then?

There aren't labels fighting for her, Epic and Syco had the right to move her to a solo contract when she left the group, and they're electing to do that. As for where she fits into the market, I think you slot her halfway between Alessia and Ariana, if that makes any sense.

.... this is not a great argument. Lots of artists with shit voices always have fans, radio industry heads, producers in their corner.

But we're not talking about ability. We're talking about tone and sound. People going - "it's just SO objectively squeaky and unpleasant". It's the same argument people use to mock someone like Britney. I would expect pop fans to not be the type to pull the similar arguments. Selena Gomez can't sing for shit either, but I'm not going to say objectively the tone of her voice is awful and question how no one can actually like it, especially when I know pop music is the perfect forum for non-traditional voices.

Ability and tone are two vastly different things people still can't seem to grasp.

I mean I could make the exact same argument about Harry Styles, who I know most people here can't stand. But I suppose since producers and label heads are thirsty for him no one can say he has an objectively bad voice (which I don't agree with, but that's beside the point).

People always trying to claim Camila's voice is "objectively" bad is so funny.

Like... the majority of their fans, radio, industry heads AND the very producers who make their music are all wrong? All of them?
Are you seemingly incapable of seeing how "capable" can be also be crippled by "unpleasant" / "jarring"? A great voice isn't always a pretty sound. And it simply being different from a "pretty sound" doesn't necessarily warrant attention? The buying public will be the factor, not the industry heads.

People have been talking about tone. You're the one who threw ability in. Chill a bit with your militant Camila stanning, it's tiresome.

I used "bad" in place of "ugly" or "annoying". I'm not talking about her ability. I'm talking about the tone of it. Though I see how my vagueness could lead to confusion. My apologies!

And I'm saying statements like suggesting "90% of all people" find it unpleasant to be... a bit odd. People are buying a song despite "90%" of all people finding its singer's voice shrill, unpleasant and annoying? Which is why I point out the difference in ability and tone. If she can't sing well, she simply can't sing well, but for people to suggest her voice is objectively annoying and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong is a little much.

I can see why people would/wouldn't like her voice. Her tone is really harsh and becomes a bit insufferable when she starts belting. She sounds nice in more toned down situations (ex: The Life).

1. She should leave Syco immediately because they are like awful in terms of support

2. Her ad-libs are hit-making on 'Work From Home'

3. I don't know if I could sit through a whole album of her's though. Great voice in terms of power and range but she can Donald Duck a bit sometimes.
