Revival shits on this, let's be real. I mean, where are the Good for Yous, Hands to Myselfs, Me & the Rhythms etc? It's more like a Cheryl album, if anything.
Cheryl is the faceless queen, though. I.. listen, I'm not a huge fan of this album. I think it's just alright. It's nice. It grew on my second listen. But, I don't think faceless is the correct term to describe this as Camila's personality and feelings are all over this album. It's not really generic, it just suffers from aspiring to be more than it really is but can't blame a girl for trying. Everything feels her and that's the experience she wants from it.

Selena's albums are faceless but have bops. This isn't faceless but has no bops.

Anyway as a fellow Cuban I was kinda rooting for her, but everything about this era is so joyless and sterile, sans maybe "Liar," which while still derivative is at least catchy. All the other singles should have been left on the cutting room floor.

What's with this strange idea that because she's young she's got to project a care-free, bubbly personality in her songs, giving us "bops", whatever that means? I mean of course it's OK not to like her music, but blaming it on being "too serious" and the like just doesn't register with me, like there's "young people music" vs. "old people music" and artists should fit into those tiny little boxes.

I gave this a spin and yeah, nothing really caught my attention. Living Proof is still an 11/10 so she'll always have that at least.

There have been plenty of young artists this year who knocked it out of the park making "slow", bopless albums with heaps of personality. The problem is that Camila's music just isn't ... that good. At least to me.

Yeah, I said joyless, not serious. Everything from this era feels overcooked, focused grouped and boring. Even the album title and surrounding imagery is sort of staid and conservative, not really playing with the idea of "Romance" in any meaningful or new way. Not to say that she needs to be breaking ground with every new release either, but I dunno... give us something to latch on to? There's just something that's not clicking yet.

Anyway, I don't mean to pile on her as I really do see the potential! She's just not there yet and, on her second album, she's allowed to not be there yet! The only thing I worry about is I don't really trust her pop instincts or taste in music. Like I just get the feeling the label needs to continually reign her in.

Fair enough, sorry for overinterpreting!

Anyway, those New Music Daily videos are just magnificient and show that once she unleashes her whole potential I'm sure she'll blow us all away.

A lot of the songs on the album have grown on me immensely. I love First Man, Should Have Said It, Used To It, Shameless, Dream Of You and This Love.

I do understand the frustration in wanting more up-tempo tracks and that’s mostly because she can really sell a performance. This right here is a just a small glimpse of the potential she has as a performer:

I can't imagine it'll be as big as her debut at all. Senorita felt more like a Shawn single than Camilla to me and the other singles haven't really made an impact.

I imagine it'll go top 3 across the world but fall pretty fast.
Yeah I can see that! It’s a shame the music isn’t connecting this time because to me her debut was such a little solid body of work, and it’s like this era there is a step back. She’ll have another chance though for sure if things don’t go great
