Can disdain for Doug Ford push Ontario to vote Libs or NDP, preventing Scheer from taking power this fall?

The political leadership in Ontario sucks.

Doug Ford is dismantling Ontario in some weird ego-fueled conquest to cut the deficit. He's slashed funding or canceled programs from environmental, to tech and medical related research, dozens of social assistance programs (such as addiction and mental health services, safe injection sites, programs that assist parents with autistic children), healthcare and public health, education, tuition assistance, an increase in minimum wage... But ya know, 'buck a beer' and investing in horse racing and gambling. Thanks.

The conservatives are a disaster and the liberals are disappointing. I really, really, really need the NDP to step their pussies up and I need the people of Ontario to expect better and vote smarter.

I’ve always been an NDP hoe but it’s been an uphill battle. People don’t trust the NDPs solely because they’ve never actually won the election, and it’s beyond frustrating to me that people stick with Liberals vs Conservatives.

I wrote this in the Climate thread (then deleted it because I’m that kind of person) but literally everyone around me stans the Conservatives. It’s absolutely mind-boggling to me. Rob Ford can choke.

I mean, it’s not like I live in some racist, homophobic backwoods area - it’s just that everybody thinks Rob Ford and our Conservative MPP really are Those Bitches when they’re really not.

I joined the NDP party this week because they are the only competition to the Conservatives in my riding. But I actually think I’ll vote Green to give them money if it looks like there’s no shot for the NDP to overtake the Cons in my riding.

My premier is one of the infamous five that Maclean’s tried to label “The Resistance.”

Does Trudeau stand a chance of remaining PM?
I have the same question. I'm Canadian but don't follow the politics closely because I live in America dd. But what's the tea? Is the SNC-Lavalin scandal still a big deal? I had seen some polling that showed the Conservative party rising rather quickly.

People seem to really hate Trudeau, and though the SNC-Lavalin scandal was a pretty big deal, it just seems like everyone is sick of him as it is. It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything about the scandal.

I don’t think Scheer is seen as any better, but - at least in my area - everyone is very much over the Liberals. I try to stay educated on a provincial if not national level, but I still feel like everywhere I look is “Trudeau sucks, out with the Liberals! Bring in the blue!”

The problem is that Trudeau hasn't really accomplished anything. Obviously I don't want Scheer, but I'm not ecstatic about four more years of Trudeau. Sadly, everybody in the country is under the impression that the NDP could never win a federal election so it usually comes back to Trudeau vs. Scheer.

I had seen some polling that showed the Conservative party rising rather quickly.

A more recent poll had the Liberals up by 2%.

Disagree. Trudeau's government has accomplished a lot. Look at the legislation they've gotten through and they've done fairly well in foreign policy and trade.

And governing isn't just about the big flashy accomplishments. There's something to be said for stable day to day governance and not fucking things up, esp with such a volatile administration to the south.

I'm pleased with their performance and hope they can win in fall. It'll be close, though.

I’m still waiting for the ban on MSM donating blood without a one year deferral period to be lifted, which I’m almost certain Trudeau said would happen?

I get it’s a process so I’m not getting impatient about it (yet) but it’s been a while since I’ve heard anything about that...

Ford's Spitfire-like descent in popularity also has national implications. Federal Conservative leader, Andrew Scheer - Ford's ideological soul mate - was poised to defeat Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his floundering, scandal-plagued regime in the upcoming general election.

Surely, Scheer knows his odds of winning are fading as fast as Ford's once Cheshire-confident grin. The electoral calculus is simple: Lose vote-rich Ontario and you lose general elections.

The solution: Encourage Ford to go on a five-month "summer" break, so all those hardworking guys and gals would hopefully forget him and the harm he has wrought until after the national vote, scheduled for October 21.”

I believe it's been reduced to minimum 3 months with no sex with another male. It's still absolute bullshit and completely excludes sexually active gay men regardless of their sexual health practices.

This completely passed me by! This is such good news. Of course it’s still problematic but even one year to three months is a huge step. I can see the day where no MSM-specific deferral will be required.

I voted Liberal but I'm in the camp of 'not impressed with Trudeau' - I'd be interested to hear what he's accomplished in your opinion. I don't think he's nearly as disastrous as many want to paint him out to be, but I'm also often let down by his leadership.

The funny thing is, a lot of my circle is young and liberal, and I often see them trash Trudeau (increasingly so over the past few months, whereas most all of them would have voted for him)... but they have even more contempt for Ford. Even some of the more conservative-leaning older members of my family hate what Ford is doing to our education and healthcare systems.

Trudeau ran on a campaign of electoral reform, heavily suggesting he would do away with first past the post, then hasn't done anything about it since being in office. I'm not a fan, he's just so smarmy and if he doesn't have a rehearsed answer then he shuts down.
