The outro of Keep Away is possibly one of my favourite passages of pop music of 2022. The resolution infused with melancholy is tangible. The way the vocoder combines with her vocals… that synth melody that fades in… the muted exasperation in way she sings ‘god, I miss your hands over my body’. Perfection!

This album is just a little bit perfect isn't it? There are peaks and valleys, some playing with genres but throughout it just feels distinctly Carly. Perfection. One of my faves of the year.

I adore the Jenna-isms during the intro and Carly looks great but the song is still the star here! The gut-punch of those lyrics over the euphoric production hits every time. Must admire her hustle too, stretching her undoubtedly small budget within an inch of life to give us 5 videos/singles this era... that's my mom.
