Carrie Underwood - Denim & Rhinestones

He/Him
Ugh yeah I don’t even know if I can stand her anymore. I love her music, not the last couple preachy albums she put out, but everything else. I dunno, she’s been pretty dumb when it comes to her opinions on vaccination and generally just unlikeable lately.
I’ll probably just try and separate the music from the person for now.

I want to separate the music from the person most of the times, but I agree with the sentiments expressed here. I was such a huge fan of hers, even met her during the post-Idol-winning days on tour and she was lovely. But... the anti-vax/mask stuff still makes me raise an eyebrow.

I won't be re-laminating my stan card for the woman by any means, but if the song is anywhere away from the pooptastic Christmas albums she's pedaled out the last few years, I'll listen. "Blown Away" remains the best thing she's ever done.

For the most part I thought Cry Pretty was one of her strongest efforts (the singles were abysmal though - I hear Southbound at work regularly and to say I hate it is not strong enough).

I will say - and yes, I know, how much of this is true and how much is misogyny etc - there have been rumors that she is not a pleasant person for years. So I wasn't terribly surprised by the stuff from last year.

Yeah the singles were awful, and it showed in the chart performance. Perfectly fine album tracks.

I’ve felt over the last few years that Carrie Underwood the singer is very much a facade. Her husband creeps me the fuck out too.

"Backsliding" was the best thing on that album and it got paid dust. Travesty.

2006 called and wants its art direction back.

She seems like she has very intense type A personality and isn't as personable as a lot of her contemporaries? There were rumours years ago that she refused to take a picture with Taylor at one of the many country music awards because she was "jealous" at Taylor's domination because her music was more pop-leaning. It could've been a case of the media pitting them against each other, but the fact that they've never been pictured together despite running in the same award circles for years seems like there could be some truth to it.

Which is funny because the exact same thing happened to her when she debuted. There was a lot of rumours about the other female artists being pissed off because her debut won some big country award. Again it could just be the media pitting women against other women. Who knows.

Kind of the same with Kelly Clarkson. Kelly - for years - would go out of her way to make it clear how big of a fan she was of Carries and that she had no issue with her whatsoever and Carrie was mostly... very quiet. And finally in the last few years I feel like Kelly kind of stopped trying to be so friendly about it. Though I think Carrie was on her show, so you never know.

I feel really conflicted about this, Cry Pretty and Blown Away are great albums and I have some great memories of her earlier material as well but I am really disappointed in her actions and I do feel that there is more to it than we’ve seen although all we can do is speculate.

I don’t really know how to express how so feel about it all really, I’ve spent ages trying to put it all in here and I just can’t!

I suppose in a nutshell it just becomes difficult when there’s reason to suspect or feel that a celebrity would actively campaign, endorse or fund things which go against the things I support.
