Cassie

From my understanding, after Long Way 2 Go underperformed they scrapped any more plans for singles and Cassie fulfilled the rest of her obligations, and began the earliest sessions for a new album with Ryan Leslie. She also shot Step Up 2 and spent time in hospital with Mono around this time.

Then a few songs began leaking like Turn The Lights Off and In Love with The DJ alongside rumours of a second album for early 2008 called Connecticut Fever. Is It You is released in the US in late 2007 and the UK in early 2008 but doesn't do much.

I'm not sure if I'm just in an online echo chamber but Long Way 2 Go seems to have had great longevity and is either well-remembered from that era or a new generation are discovering it. I've loved to see that!

Also I think that 'Is It You' did pretty well charting in the UK despite the only promo being its music video being on rotation on the music channels.

The situations she describes are horrifying. I feel sick to my stomach for sitting all those years worrying about her releasing music when she was going through all of that. So much of it was long rumored but you always hope somehow none of it is true, sending her all the love and peace and hope she gets justice.

All the information coming out is so distressing. He blew up Kid Cudi’s car just cause he dated Cassie?? No wonder she felt like she couldn’t leave him, he was threatening and abusing her every step of the way. I’m so proud of her for speaking up and even happier that she’s now free from him with her husband and baby. She deserves the world and Diddy deserves hell.

Wow he's always been trash but this is a new level.

The way he’s been involved with so many heinous things that have happened in the industry and it’s not effected him one bit. I hope she gets all the peace and justice she needs from and hopefully stars to heal. I hope there are eyes on her because his industry connects and access to money is scary.

What a truly despicable man he is. Every quoted paragraph seemed to reveal something worse. I feel so awful for her and I guess all I can hope for with this lawsuit is that brings her some degree of healing, peace, and closure.

I was heartened to see Dawn Richard post in solidarity with her and I know Aubrey O'Day has been speaking out about this for a while.

she/they
Okay, I’m back from reading the entire court document, and it’s exceedingly sad and difficult to reconcile just how much of her career had been intertwined with his abuse. There are literally paragraphs in the court document that state her lead single and then-slated sophomore album would be withheld if she didn’t return Diddy‘s calls. Lawyers were advising her to call Diddy. And that’s barely scratching the surface of what he subjected her to. He’s worse than a nightmare, and I’m so glad she’s free from him, but I wish her the best in the coming days now that this has become public record.

She/Her
This explains so much. I'm so glad she got away from him. It feels like the Britney situation to me, where you could sense that something was off, but then you learn the details and it's like, good god, you were going through all that? I hope she knows that her fans are still out here, ready to support her through this and anything she wants to do.
