Same happened to my copy of You Want This. It mostly washes off if you're careful. I think it may be a chemical reaction to the digipak packaging. I had mine stored right beside the other CD 2 (or 1?) that came in a standard jewel case. That one was perfectly fine. My jewel case Any Time.. was also fine.I’ve never experienced disc rot before, my copy of the Ultimate Kylie DVD escaped it, but I’ve just bought these Janet CD’s on eBay and yikes! Has anyone else had disc rot with these? I’d have thought it affected a whole batch, but could it be down to storage? View attachment 62292
It's 8 years since I went to rip my copy and discovered it was like that. I didn't dare try playing it as is because I thought the powdery substance would probably destroy my drive. It left cloudy blotches all over the disc playing surface after cleaning but thankfully it did still play and ripped without errors.I have seen these marks on CDs in charity shops before, but I don't think any of mine have it. In the past I've even wondered if they were simply a unique "special edition" pattern, much like the early 90s hologram discs!
Does it affect play at all?
@Jacques I still have the CD1/CD2 combo of Anytime Anyplace if you'd like it. They are still in my charity donation box.Oh yes, there are three....and thinking about it, I put mine in the "donate to charity" box that I keep, but don't think I actually took them yet.
A lot of the new releases also seem to be averaging at £14.99. Part of the reason could be the record labels re-couping any losses from people not wanting to pay the extortionate vinyl prices. I still haven't touched any of the Taylor Swift re-recordings. I'm not wanting to pay twenty quid for albums I already own.I've noticed it for a while and now in 2025 it looks to be getting ridiculous. Example....a new 5CD David Lee Roth set, in card sleeves and clamshell case. Just albums, no bonus stuff. Not so long ago this would have been £15 tops...maybe £12.99. Current asking (pre order) price? £41!
He's hopped between labels so there's probably no easy archive of his physical releases, but he's been gradually re-releasing stuff so I would expect some more coming now he's back properly.Patrick Wolf was a recent discovery for me. Still specchless his official store has just a couple of his albums, but according to his Wiki page, he leased 6 albums, at least.
