Charli xcx - Brat

To be a GIRL, girl, girl GGGIRRL

This absolutely feels like the chaotic offspring of XCX World and how I'm feeling now. The way she swings wildly from I'm the shit to I'm a piece of shit is very relatable, honestly. So many highlights but I just love Sympathy is a Knife. If it is what I think it's about imagine having all that external chaos and then Charli, a tangle of bravado and deep insecurities, having to deal with all her internal anxieties at the same time. It's so stunning and ferocious. Who knows if this album will replace any of my Charli holy trinity but the fact that it is a possibility says a lot. This album has also barely been out in the world for 24 hours and the way I'm already hammering it in to the ground.

Just got back from a very nice walk with this on my headphones and other than Von Dutch and Mean Girls which I would happily launch into the abyss I enjoyed this a great deal. The piano break in Mean Girls is next level but otherwise found the song embarrassing. Everything else though! Girl... Apple, B2B especially. Wonderful! It's so exciting hearing an album this massive have long passages about being weird and shitty and insecure.

The album really is a lot of fun and truly a great job with the sum up of what makes Charli a gifted artist; a greatest hits moment, or better, a "Best Of". I can easily link each song to another album that came before, refined and updated and of course feels intentional (including "Sucker" energy with Mean Girls. The piano breakdown is probably the most "organic" track she has done since that album and the lyrics itself are carrying on from Breaking Up).

Even the placement of tracklist feels very intentional; Rewind sounds like a long lost Vroom Vroom/XCX World classic. It's really the most bubblegum ""PC Music"" track she's ever released, sitting pretty with the likes of Taxi, Come To My Party, Bounce... and it comes right before So I?? As if it's a straight up reminder of the MAGIC they were all creating?? Got me lowkey emotional when I realized.

Also, I think the timing couldn't have been more perfect and, once again, Crash was essential for this narrative of "returning to the roots of Charli the pioneer". It expanded some of her public, gave the long-term fans a break to "miss it" and feels like a 180º, even if she's just moving back to somewhere she's always been. This coming from How I'm Feeling Now wouldn't be the same gag, sorry!

My first post mentioned I didn't feel "wow'ed" about any song, but now I feel like... it's not about "wow", but how familiar and good they sound, how great she's always been. Sympathy Is a Knife is a fucking earworm dressed with the noisiest and quiekiest clothes. So I is a fucking gorgeous ballad. "Ain't broke, don't fix it", I guess!

Aaand for the campaign itself; the greatest case ever of

360 = N1Angel

Sympathy Is a Knife = How I'm Feeling Now
I Might Say Something Stupid = How I'm Feeling Now
Talk Talk = Crash
Von Dutch = Pop2

I Think About It All The Time = How I'm Feeling Now
365 = Pop2

Finally was able to listen in full and what a fantastic album. I feel like it's such a great execution of what makes Charli unique. I love how much more there is here lyrically too, I wasn't expecting her to get so personal and touch on her insecurities and stuff like this. It's interesting how matter of fact and literal "I think about it all the time" is.

My early fave is Sympathy is a knife, it's fantastic. I also still get so much use out of B2b
