Charli xcx - Brat

Finally managed to snag a golden circle ticket for tonight!

Now to figure out how to get to bp pulse and back to Manchester as quickly as possible...

It was my seventh time seeing her and definitely the best yet. Performing 360, 365 and everything is romantic remix twice… she knows they are god tier.

The absolute baiting of performing everything is romantic with elements of the remix, to then perform it 4 songs later with Caroline. The surprise of her appearance was a bit better than the performance itself, mainly because the crowd didn’t seem to know who she was and she was lipping to begin with (tech issues I’m guessing). Welcome to my island got the crowd more revved and they went mad for Robyn.

Conducting a 90 minute arena show without a single backup dancer or video backdrop is a testament to her stage presence. I’d say it was needlessly bare. If she wanted to keep the club theme, some lasers or pyrotechnics would have elevated things. It’s hard to know if it was an intentional choice, lack of creativity or budgetary constraints.

The setlist works really well but it’s definitely time to retire Vroom Vroom and Unlock It. I skipped I Love It to beat the crowds!

When the tour was announced (i.e. before 'brat summer') I imagine it was wishful thinking for her to sell out arenas, and that would've constrained the budget; I have no idea though whether she would've had to lock in staging at that point or whether there was flexibility post-brat-summer to amp everything up. Confidence Man have been touring venues 1/10th the size recently with a low-poly PS2/clipart video backdrop, and it elevated the show without losing that raw, clubby vibe.
