1999 is a bop but y’all cannot tell me it measures up to anything on Number 1 Angel or Pop 2. It’s better than a few of the summer singles but I expect more from what was essentially the first single from this album.

I like the song, it hasn't entirely grabbed ahold of my life yet but it's only a matter of time. Charli's bringing it lately and she deserves this so much.

I have 110% faith in Charli, and I have zero doubt that this is going to be a wonderful album, but I think that expectations of it possibly topping Pop 2 need to be...tempered slightly. That album still feels like such a unique moment for her, and is more or less her magnum opus. I feel comfortable in saying that I’m not expecting her to top it so soon (but it would be great if she proved me wrong).

But then, I’ve never seen the supposed gulf in quality/“basicness” between the summer singles and what came out beforehand, either, so what do I know. She’s rarely put a foot wrong for me.

She doesn't have a bad album (I mean, Sucker comes close, but let's not), so I'm sure it'll at least be good. Blame It On Your Love is a choice, but 1999 and Gone are stone cold bops.

I love that we only get the full chorus ("why do we keep..." through "I'm already gone") three times. The way it cuts off for Chris's verse and then gets swallowed by the breakdown at the end is such good popcraft - don't search hook in here, it's already gone, etc
