Charmed

They should have just stopped at season 7. It goes to show how much it whole thing was on its last legs when they had to literally freeze a character out of the episodes.

And for what?! So we could get two wonderfully likeable characters like Billie and Christie.

That said, I do enjoy several moments from 5-8. Season six's two part finale is one of my favorites because it feels very high stakes.

Yeah I disagree, season 4 & 5 were strong seasons and even though 6/7/8 are at the bottom they had some decent episodes.

Season 5 was watchable but definitely not strong. The character assassination of Phoebe in the first half, the fluffy fairytale themed eps (mermaids, nymphs and leprechauns do not belong in Charmed) and Piper and Leo’s relationship breaking down never to be the same again. I wasn’t keen on Piper becoming a mother either. It weakened her character too early.

Not good.

He/Him
Charmed (as the show many of us signed up for/to) died with Prue. There were still some great moments after - but it was never really the same. I had wondered many times if these events (on the show) had been handled differently whether it would have made the arrival of Paige less jarring - but in reality, it wouldn’t really have mattered long term since the tone kept changing to something completely different as it went on anyway (which I think would have been the progression regardless).

He/Him
Ok but season 4 was the best season. Then it died.

Season 4 and 5 have some of my absolute favourite Charmed moments. I can watch the whole lot from 1 to 5 and enjoy every single moment. Season 6 was patchy, season 7 was ok, season 8 was dreadful apart from the last 8 minutes.

I prefer season 6 over season 5. It has a better overarching story and went pretty dark in some episodes. It also may have the best finale, aside from season 3.

Phoebe as an empath was a mess though.

Only 11 days until Amazon Prime UK take off Charmed series 1 - 3!!! I am beyond shocked and surprised!

I hate when they remove series that I watch religiously and return to weekly. Even though I have the box sets, having it so easy to hand makes it so much more accessible!

Frustrating beyond belief!

Nooo I was enjoying listening to the podcast, hearing them point out things that were a bit crap and then then rewatching the relevant bits on Amazon Prime!

The latest podcast episode (featuring the actor who played Rex) is brilliant. I had to go back and watch the bits featuring the plastic lantern jangling and Rex rolling forward on a skateboard (propelled along by Prue’s telekenesis) towards the puma and his bloodless death.

Yeah, all the guests on the podcast are so nice and enthusiastic. 'Wicca Envy' was one of the better episodes of season 1. I do agree with Brian Krause that Rex and Hannah could've been developed more and should've been present for the entire first season. I think it's also the first time that 'The Source' is hinted at.

Without checking, am I correct in thinking that Rex and Hannah were killed off mid way through Season 1, usually when there is a short mid season hiatus?

But yes, completely agree with the general consensus that they should have been kept on throughout season 1 and fleshed out. It would have been good to see a proper ‘good vs evil’ witch battle between Prue and Hannah!

Yes, episode 10 'Wicca Envy' was their last appearance. It was also the first episode after the little mid-season break.

During the podcast, they make fun of the way Rex and Hannah are defeated: Piper freezes Rex and mid-jump panther Hannah and then Prue moves Rex in front of Hannah. I actually thought it was a cool power display and the special effects aren't that bad.

I wish the overarching story lines and villains were a bit stronger throughout the seasons. I think season 4 and 6 are the most consistent in that department. But they never found the right balance like Buffy for example.

I’m loving how interactive they are with the fans on the podcast. Sure it’s less of a deep dive and more of a “woah that could have been better” especially from Holly but I love it.
