I'm surprised by how deeply this has affected me. I thought that as we grow older, we would become more detached from our icons or better able to rationalize their passings. It's fascinating how much we can become attached to entertainers through the creative works they share with the world. The meaning we project onto them and their presence in our lives, especially during our formative years, becoming something... tangible.
Amy, Sarah Harding, Shannen – what they've gifted us through their work have been small pieces that helped shape us into the adults we are today. I'm grateful for that - and even for the sadness. It's the best example of how the arts and the culture can move us and affect us. I think there's a certain magic in a Spanish boy feeling sad that one actress from Tennessee decided to appear on a TV show one day. I bet she'd never imagine that legacy.
