Charmed

My last moan is that the actress who plays Christy is not good whatsoever, which doesn't make things any better.
She spends 99% of her scenes looking like she's sucking on a lemon. It's weird.

As a character, I remember thinking there were sparks of something interesting here and there (when she killed the last member of the triad, who essentially raised/trained her) but it never amounted to anything. Her whole arc was a mess. Billie could have worked as a character had they taken the time to work her into the series better, and not wrote her into the ground in service of turning her against the sisters. I think Kaley did what she could, and we know she has the range now, but maybe if Billie was cast with a more dramatic leaning actress it could have helped somewhat.

The Halliwells themselves were also awful in that final season. Phoebe was a one-dimensional moron, Paige was a bumbling idiot (partially a product of Rose spluttering her way to the finish line since she was over it all, for reasons we all understand now), and Piper had morphed from prickly but likeable into a total whinge-bag by the time we hit late season 7. Honestly, a good chunk of the reboot eclipses that final season of the original.

I really need to watch the reboot. I think even if they just focused more on the wiccan/sisterhood themes I would enjoy it more than a chunk of the original.

I only watched a bit of the first season of the reboot and once it got passed a lot of the "Remember when this happened in the original series?" plotlines and did some original stuff of it's own, I was actually intrigued. I like what they did with the whitelighter and Elder stuff and also the coven of rebel witches. I should go back and watch the rest of it.
Too bad it got cancelled, but CW always ends up axing everything.

I still think the universe of Charmed deserves another show.

Im rewatching (again dd) and I’m at The Fourth Sister when Piper and Phoebe were fighting over Leo, and Piper telling Leo about Phoebe being at her gay and lesbian group is sending me for some reason.

It’s a tough rewatch though since it’s the first since Shannen died. She was such a driving force and it shows on screen right away.

I’ve been thinking about the show and have a question that I don’t know if any of you could help with?
I know now Phoebe is considered the most unliked sister. But when the show was airing it felt like she was the most popular (at least season 2-3 (maybe 1 as well)). Was this actual case and when did she stop be as liked?

I would also add when Brad Kern properly took over as showrunner, making it less about "sisters who are witches" and more "girls in skimpy costumes for that week".

But, Alyssa turning producer in Season 5 onwards is likely the biggest reason.

Phoebe could do no wrong from season 5 onwards. She should have faced proper repercussions from choosing to be evil and do evil things with Cole, but the show for whatever reason decided that only Cole was to blame for everything. It could have made her a more interesting and nuanced character, but instead we get 5 episode love interest after 5 episode love interest there to tell us that Phoebe's true power was love.

Phoebe also had (sorry) the lamest set of powers. Premonitions were just plot pushers. Empathy... plot pusher, for mostly her romance storylines and not anything actually interesting or useful. Levitation... Flashy but pretty useless and then was taken away because it was too expensive.

Lowkey think Prue should've had levitation (which she kind of did have) and Phoebe should've had astral projection. Also, remember in The Eyes Have It when Phoebe's premonitions got that upgrade, and she astral projected into them? And then it was never mentioned again. What happened there?

As much as I enjoyed Prue's astral projection and Piper's explosions, in hindsight... I do wish none of them ever got powered-up. I know the series needed to progress, and it's only natural to want them to be even more powerful and the fight scenes to be flashier, but I think in the grand scheme of things it too away from the core of the story.
Have to agree with this especially re Piper's exploding powers. It was almost like they didn't need to find a solution to the threat of the week because Piper usually just blew them up in the end and it was done

Didn't she lose her active powers during that trial with some giant heads because of budget cuts dd.

The Charmed Wiki lists 3 further instance of Phoebe using astral premonition such as talking to her future self in Hulkus Pocus.
