Charts & Rates Queue

@Mirwais Ahmadzaï's question reminded me to give you guys a heads-up: I am pretty much done with the translation of virtually every song we're going to rate, which will go up once the rate opens. I assume translations are available on the internet, but I'm going to do a better job at it anyway, because I'm including footnotes for some stuff that I consider essential. Also, the corpus of songs to be rated will also go up when the rate opens (obviously), but I'm still doing consultation seances with the spirit of La Paquera de Jerez in order to determine what songs will be left out due to being considered interludes and such (sorry @Vasilios but you can't give your 11 to Rossy de Palma's soliloquy on El Mal Querer!). Other than that, expect all 3 of her studio albums to be there, plus her in-between-eras droplets and a few other things. I'm very excited!

Not actually a rate but I figured I might as well post about it here - the ▨ ▩ ▧ ALBUM LOG 2024 ▧ ▩ ▨ thread is now open! For those unfamiliar, it's a place for everyone to keep track of the albums they listen to for the first time each year, feel free to join!

Thought it could be fun to also use this thread for an "albums of the week" thing - think like a book club, but with albums. Each week someone picks a pair of albums and whoever's interested can give them a listen and share their thoughts, and then the next week it's someone else's turn to pick, and so on. The first pair is here if anyone feels like joining:

Ok let's give this a try:

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK

The idea here is each Sunday/Monday, someone picks a pair of albums, and whoever is interested can listen to either or both of them through the week and share their thoughts. I thought it made more sense to go with two rather than just one so that hopefully at least one will be new for everyone. The albums can be new or old, whatever you feel like, just preferably stuff that's both at least somewhat PJ-friendly and that most people will probably not have already heard. Of course the format can change later on if need be.

I'll go first, and my picks for the week are:

Love In The Time Of Science is a bewitching, atmospheric slice of Icelandic trip-hop/electronica, think a less out-there, more accessible version of Björk. One of my all-time favourite 90s albums. And for anyone in the mood for something more upbeat/modern, METANOIA is a delicious collection of Spanish electropop bops, one of my favourite releases of last year.

Enjoy listening to either (or both), let us know what you think, and feel free to start thinking of what your picks will be in the coming weeks!

Hi everybody, I just wanted to provide an update that no new rates will be opening in April because scheduling conflicts came up for some confirmed hosts and i didn't feel there was enough time to ask new people to start. As always real life is more important than this forum.

I am working on trying to confirm at least one rate for May, but I’ve been very busy. If you are a rate host interested in May it might help if you send me a DM saying you’d be interested in opening next month so I don’t have to spend as much time chasing down who might be free.

It's okay, hopefully I can open the PJSC Winners rate in April. Everyone get in on it.

Greetings fellow PJ Eurovision Lovers!

It's that time of year again, and after last year's late running contest, thanks to me actually attending Eurovision, we return back to our regular scheduled programming for Popjustice 12 Points' 20th Anniversary!!!

To absolutely no-one's surprise, Loreen bagged the trophy last year, becoming the first artist to ever win more than once, and cementing Sweden at the top of the league table with a respectable 5th victory. For stat nerds here, that means Sweden has one a quarter or competitions since it's inception in 2004!

Right now it's time to vote for who you want to see make it out of the PJ semi-finals, and as is customary now, the Big 5 and host country don't get an automatic place in our final - they have to earn it. The top 13 rated songs in each semi will make it through to our final.

Send me a PM with your top 10 of each semi (including the automatic finalists) by 23:59 UK Time on Friday 3rd May 2024. I will then endeavor to reveal the qualifiers at some point the next day, and then open the voting for our Grand Final in the week leading up to real Eurovision.

Eligible for Semi 1: Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Germany, Slovenia, Finland, Moldova, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Australian, Portugal and Luxembourg.

Eligible for Semi 2: Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, Czechia, France, Austria, Denmark, Armenia, Latvia, Spain, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Israel, Norway and Netherlands

POPJUSTICE START VOTING NOW!!

Much love x
